Smobot keeps turning off - any ideas?

@TheToast I was just curious how well my "lipstick" Anker battery would work until it ran out of juice.
From a full charge it ran for about 36 hours without any hiccups before it dropped to less than 50% charge level. I was originally going to let it continue to run until the charge level got low enough that the pack would decide to shut itself off but figured that since 36+ hours is far more than I could run on one load of fuel anyway I learned all I needed to know.
When I unplugged the SmoBot from the battery pack the pack shut itself off after about 5 seconds of sensing no current draw (which is normal).
How old are the two battery packs that you have tried with your SmoBot?

I got a 2200 mah battery bank and it works perfectly. I don't use it with wifi and don't know if that makes a difference in the power it draws.Judy in San Diego

PowerIQ on the anker is likely the problem...____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli

@HeavyG Checked through my amazon orders and I bought my Anker 3.5 years ago. So it's old. But still holds a solid charge (TBH I never use it). My wife's battery is also about 3yrs old.
Do you think it could be a problem with older batteries? What model lipstick battery do you have?
Would buy the one that was mentioned earlier in this thread if that's the best option, but it's a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a walnut - don't really need an expensive super high capacity one if there's another option. Thanks -

It's actually even a little bit cheaper in the UK than in the US.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk -
@HeavyG Thanks. I've ordered! I'll run a test with it when it arrives.

This is the one I am using. It was recommended by SMOBOT support.
Delta Mini - Ultra-Slim, Universal Portable Charger For Apple/Android Phones & Tablets (Black) 4000mah Black (you can buy it other places.)
I have done 20 hour cook with this one.
I have three other ones none of the them work. They all go asleep.

Yeah, ironically, you really need a pretty dumb and cheap battery it seems. Because the power draw is so low. We'll be looking at sourcing reliably dumb battery banks somewhere to distribute to people at-cost, and/or I'm half curious if there's a good solar solution like the old calculators had... ;-)
More to follow.

I have only had my smobot a short time. The smobot has worked like a champ with the cheap ihome battery I've had forever.Memphis, TN

It's an odd problem for sure. Most of the battery packs I use are the Anker brand. They will all shut themselves off after about 5 or 10 seconds if nothing is plugged into them and drawing power. However, none of those have shutdown when used with my Smobot.
I'd mentioned in another thread that I have also used one of these "empty shell" type of battery packs where you BYOB (bring your own battery), in this case it is an 18650. I keep a lot of 18650's around fully charged so one of these little shells is useful if I can't immediately recharge the "shell" when it runs out of juice I can just pop in another 18650.
I've used it once with my Smobot and it didn't seem to have any problems. It's only $6 so I'm guessing at that price the circuit is probably not too smart.

That battery (without logo) that was included with my smobot worked great previously, but it does not seem to like the cold temperatures (low single digits to minus-5 or so air temp) we've had up here. I've had to plug into an outlet for my last two cooks.Stillwater, MN

I bought a 4000mAh "Expert Power" brand, model Delta Mini, off of
a link that one of you posted, from Amazon. I think it was $13 or something like that. Have used it on a 16hr brisket cook and Christmas turkey. Worked brilliantly for both cooks. TOTALLY sold on SMOBOT!!Charles Town, West-by-God Virginia

Anker PowerCore+ mini (3350mAh Premium Aluminum Portable Charger) Lipstick-Sized External Battery Power Bank for iPhone 6 / 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 / mini 3, Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge and More (Black) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005QI1A8C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_gourAbX3C2G3X
Tried it once, for 5 hours and it worked fine. Didn't shut down.
So so looks like I now have a working smobot.
Next thing I'd like Smobot to fix is being able to remotely change a temperature below 180c -
Eric is awesome!
