Check out the G1W-C on eBay.  $60 and they're 1080p.  Have them in all the company and personal trucks.  They record about a day or two worth of video, then loop on a 32gb micro sd card.  I just hardwired them to the dome light in the Expedition, that's hot when the ignition is on, then about 5-10 minutes afterward.  At my old job, I wired it to something else that was always hot, so it was always recording in the parking lot......and selectively picked my parking spot and backed in.  :)

I have a multi channel DVR in the company box truck.  It has a backup cam on the upper back of the box, blind spot cams behind the cab mounted under the forward box corners, and a forward facing.  It's a 9" split screen with the blind spot cams and backup, but will fire to full screen on the appropriate cam if you put it in reverse or put the blinker on.  All four camera have IR  and record simultaneously a 64gb sd card.  Only problem, it's only 720 resolution.  I think it was about $400 and was advertised for RVs.

Other than business purposes, what is the need for such things? Just curious.

I guess my youngest had a similar incident that would have been helpful maybe. She was struck on her way to school a couple years ago by a lady at a four way stop sign. Fortunately it was just some vehicle damage and it didn’t take a genius to see that the lady was in the wrong, but I can see where this is going to be standard on vehicles in a few years. Hmm.

Did you mount it behind your rear view mirror? (Guess that depends on the vehicle)
The Falcon has great reviews, but it does seem a bit flashy vs some of the flat black packaging of others. I've been on the fence for about a month regarding the Falcon.

Very nice US border guard informed me a couple of years ago my windshield suction cup mounted GPS was actually not legal in Washington State. Had no idea that so many states have no windshield mount legislation, seldom enforced, but still on the books.

You can also be cited for anything hanging on your rear view mirror in certain states. I have a work tag that I'm supposed to hang on my rear view mirror for work but I keep it on the dash instead. Chances of an officer pulling you over for it is pretty slim. It just one less thing I need to worry about so I leave it off

No, I like a low profile approach. I don't use the included mount and simply have it sitting on the dash with velcro fasteners. Easy to not notice it. I use these:

    Command™ Medium Picture Hanging Strips

Actually, there are a great many jurisdictions where anything mounted to the windshield is technically illegal (although I doubt there is much enforcement of those statutes).

I'd want a quick delete button before thinking about using one of these.

    SD card pops right out...

And they get lost pretty easily.

I have not seen it posted, but I used my old mobile phones as dash cams.  Autoguard is the software as I recall.  Ram mounts is a great source for all types of quality mounts, btw.

I once got a ticket for obstructed view for having a radar detector mounted just high enough above the dash to clear the wipers. He didn't say anything about badly broken windshield or the many air fresheners hanging from the mirror. He was kind enough not to give me a speeding ticket. It would have been my second one in 30 miles and third in less than 2 weeks.......  =)

That reminds me - I have two generations of ESCORT brand radar detectors which I trusted and used for many years. While I was cautious, just the same I know they saved my butt many times! With that said...now that I don't travel much, nor with the hammer down, should I just pitch them or what? Getting my age I know I need to jettison "stuff" that I no longer need.

Some interesting comments here..  I'm 40 years without an accident or citation, but with more and more crazies on the road, my interest is primarily for defensive purposes.  Found this site which I will scrutinize:  https://www.bestreviews.guide/dash-cams

Ebay, sell them, and donate the money to a charity if you like. Makes it a Win-Win.

@tenpenny_05 Funny you mention this, I have an old Garmin 50 with life time maps, I keep it updated as the Hyundai Navi updates are ridiculous$$$$, I just received an email from Garmin on their line of dash cams...definitely will look in more detail. Thanks for the heads up!

To quote the great Waylon Jennings: I've always been crazy, its kept me from going insane.

That was over 20 years ago. I was a slow learner when it came to learning that if I didn't break the law the cops didn't pull me over and hassle me.

I mostly go with the flow now and haven't been pulled over for several years. It got tiring, embarrassing and expensive to be getting tickets every few weeks/months and having my license pulled multiple times.
