Excuse my naivity, but I just read a 5 year old review about Maker's 46 saying it has a vanilla and Carmel taste...2 of my favorite tastes. Is that still a good description? If so I can see a bottle in my future. Thanks in advance!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

@RRP give the 46 a google search as there are plenty of recent views out there. It does have the wheat mash-bill (same as the original MM) so if that appeals to you then I would suggest going to a good bar and ordering a pour neat with ice on the side. That way you can play around with it to see how it tastes for you w/o buying into a bottle. Of course the bar will likely charge $10-12 for the pour. Thanks for the idea, but I'm a bit confused at your suggestion. You say go to a bar for a straight "glass" of it for $10 - 12 then plus a $2-3 tip or just chance it and buy a whole bottle for $36? Oh, that reminds me. I'm not a Scotch fan, but years ago I bought a $50 bottle of single malt Glenorangie for a friend of mine when he returned from TX for a visit. He only had 2 fingers from it as he was not feeling well. Unfortunately he died of cancer before ever returning. I don't feel I can give that bottle away as the seal is cracked. Anybody have a good recipe to put the rest of that good scotch to a good use?

A 750ml of Makers46 will cost you every bit of $45-49 around here. Cap gives you $13 option to see if you wanna go all in. Personally I’d spend that same amount of $$$ and buy Woodford or Eagle Rare.RRP said:

Good advice. Woodford and DO Woodford is hard to beat. Makers has more sweetness if that’s a preference.Mattman3969 said:

I picked up my first bottle of Blantons a few weeks ago. I have been trying to find it for over two years, but the liquor stores around have been allocated to two bottles/month. Eagle Rare is a great value, very good price for the quality. You can't hardly find it in my area though. A lot of stores will let you get on a waiting list for it and I have several friends that buy it by the case when they find it. Woodford is my go to bourbon though, pretty much always have it on hand, then will experiment with other brands occasionally.Mattman3969 said:

Blanton's arrives at the local high volume huge adult beverage store on about two Fridays a month. They get around 4-5 Blanton's each time. It runs $54/750 ml bottle. The Buffalo Trace line is quite broad with several brands including PVW, Blanton's, Eagle Rare and Weller's among others. FWIW-

Ron, if you aren’t a whiskey drinker, don’t be fooled into thinking it tastes like vanilla or caramel. Unless you have a refined whiskey pallet, you will taste whiskey and likely harsh whiskey. @RRP My friend introduced me to a cocktail called the Elder. For the hardcore Bourbon drinkers who only have it neat or on the rocks they will cringe, but I will admit I enjoy them from time to time. You start with a small wedge of orange with some pulp on the peel and muddle it together with a couple of dashes of bitters...add rocks then 2 parts bourbon and 1 part St Germain. Still get the bourbon flavor and finish, but easier drinking.
