my friend builds boat docks decks etc and had some leftover IPA wood and my egg fold out shelve were looking pretty sad sooooo

How much heat gets to the mates? I've never had them, so i don't know how hot they'd get?
Asking because i was thinking corian would make a good no maintenance replacement, if there wasn't too much heat transfer.
