Transporting a large on a trailer hitch."madhatter"

mornin everyone
I want to haul my large egg on a trailer hitch off my small motorhome.ive seen pice of those big green egg carriers,I don't really like the looks of them so am looking into building something like one of those rack- baskets that insert into a receiver hitch and customizing it,does anyone have experience with this? I saw a very old post on another forum that a BGE forum member that goes by "madhatter"does something like this.any help would be apreciated.

This is what I am currently using when I go camping. Thou this one is not mine ... it is exactly what I use. The Mini Max is only to show you how versatile it is.

This is actually designed for a lg egg. It can be easily strapped in a toy hauler or any trailer.

That looks handy for sure but I'm looking for a way to haul my egg directly off the receiver hitch.

The Larger Egg wouldn't weigh any more than a handicap scooter, should work fine

I've seen the BGE version that attaches to a hitch. I don't think I'll willing to gamble with my very expensive egg attached to a hitch. I can only imagine hitting a pothole.

@SoCalTim,I agree that BGE carrier is just a little to phony looking for potholes,here is what I have in mind,I found the pics on a Google search.im almost thinking something real similar could be made like your cart pic that you posted,a guy would have to figure a way to lower it from the receiver hitch,sure would be nice to roll it away on wheels

@Captainjimpark , you seem to be good with your hands and certainly have good ideas. Maybe you could custom build a small trailer, and design the tailgate with the egg in mind.

The trailer will also allow you to call all your cooking odd's and ends. Tim

There are the trailer hitch racks with ramps for the power wheelchairs. Find something like that then build you a small egg table like above. Maybe use some expanded metal to enclose the bottom from the shelf to the top so you can store some charcoal in there while travelling.

Some will disagree with me I"m sure, but my 2 cents is not do do it.

Hanging out back past the rear axle you will get a ton of bounce / deflection.

If you must haul fragile ceramics, the safest place is in front of the rear axle.
