Temp dropping and chill in the air. Time for chili. For the past 5 years we have only used this. Call it cheating but it's good and you can have good chili in 30 mins. No beans here.

Wait. You don't put beans in chili!? What do you call this dish?

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Looks good Mickey. I use her blend when in a hurry also. Good to see you made Chile and not some type of Bean stew, or soup or whatever folks call it.
You stop making chile when you start adding beans. That is just a fact.

I've tried chili with, and without, beans, my entire life.  I like them both, I'll keep sampling, and I'll let you know my ultimate (and, obviously, Correct) decision.

    It'll be on my headstone.

Just cook up some beans, and throw them in her bowl before spooning on the chili.

I have been waiting for this issue to resurface. Please see the recipe card I found on a recent work trip to Dallas:

Stew is something I don't eat, it doesn't have a red sauce like chili beans.

the reason i don't eat stew anymore is as a kid I got sick one night after we had stew for dinner.

The throw-up looked the exact same as my dinner, ever since then, I can not stomach eating stew, it looks like I'm eating vomit.

I guess it's a good thing I've never gotten sick after eating chili-beans.

I can explain this...you see we started to install A/C in all our buildings. Yankees finally were able to live in Texas...well needless to say some yahoo Yankee came up with this recipe for stew and called it chili.

I bet that was even printed in New York City...  Someone get a rope!

I would also point out the "award winning" after party chili from @EggObsessed‌ contains beans. Although in you Texas boys defense her signature line says keep it weird, if I remember correctly.

this still looks like hot dog sauce to me.

@Can - something had to be done to make the "foreigners" feel welcome, hence the "Texas Chili" recipe card.

I'll have to look them up @Mickey. Based in Houston. Did you find it at HEB?

HEB no, Central Market yes in Austin area. Also several places listed on web site. Need to try it and I add onions with the browning of the meat.

@Mickey I have cooked her recipe from scratch, the original award winning version, a few times. It takes about 4-5 hours but it is some of the best Texas Red I have ever made. This year I won our HOA Chili Cook Off.

Can you share her scratch recipe? All joking aside, I would make it without beans. :)

I did this one a while back. Was pretty good, but always looking to improve.

@Carolina_Q Here is the original 2 Years in row award winning recipe.

Go light on the salt, and salt to taste at the final simmer.

If you can't stand the heat only use one serrano

@Carolina_Q I had my butcher do a chili grind on the chuck tender. Worked out better than all the time spent to cube @3/8".

It does get better with time. It is better the next day after sitting in the fridge.
