Inaugural Egg Mission!

edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
Well, after much reading on the forum, my LGE arrived as well as several of Nature Boy's much anticipated rubs: Dizzy Dust, Raging River, and Cowlick, plus a sampler for a good friend of mine. I figured something simple to start, so I went for TNW's "Dead Simple Spatchcock Chicken" recipe, which is on the egg as we speak![p]Two Question for the group:
1 - Before I started, a checked the dome thermometer and my Pyrex and both were right on at 212. Now, during the cook, the dome thermometer is reading 350 degrees, while the Pyrex, all the way through, and 1.5" out of a small red potato, approx. 1" above a raised grill is only reading 260 degrees. I've read other posts where folks said to expect a 25 to 50 degree temp difference, but this is almost 100 degrees. Any suggestions or thoughts?[p]2 - Any ideas for a catchy handle? Someone was mentioning a couple of days ago that no "lumpies" exist, but I don't really aspire to be known as Lumpy! Maybe TNW's apprentice since his site is such a great resource, or just EggApprentice for short?[p]Thanks to all of the great individuals on this forum that make this a really useful resource for all of us Neweggs.[p]Rob Sabella
