OT - Seafood Places Along East Coast

I'm taking a bike ride next week and I'm going from Maine to Florida and over to Texas. Can anyone recommend a good seafood place? I'm not into fancy over priced food but rather great small local places. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hit Woodman's in Essex, MA. It is on the north shore of Boston, not too far off of 95, they claim to be the inventors of the fried clam. Who am I to argue? All of their stuff is top notch.

  • Sapelo Station, Hunters Cafe and Blackbeard Cove near Eulonia/Shellman Bluff, GA.
Blackbeard Cove on Shellman Bluff Rd has locally caught seafood cooked in traditional manner-largely fried.
Sapelo Station on US17 across from the Piggly Wiggly in Eulonia also sells wildcaught GA shrimp, but with a wider choice of cooking methods.
Hunters is a very old place in the old fishing community of Shellman Bluff right on the river and also sells local seafood.
Leaving I95 at exit 58 travel east to four way stop. Turn left and Sapelo Station is on the right. Continue north on US 17 to Red Rooster store and turn right on Pine Harbor and then back to the left on Shellman Bluff RD to Blackbeard.
Pelican Point has a large weekend buffet and is located on the river with a view of the dock. Sty the four way stop sign continue straight and watch for the sign on the left. At the dead end turn left and stay on the road around the curve to Pelican Point. While many prefer it because of the buffet, I think it is overpriced with a limited variety of food I want.
Watch for either an old airhead or a black oilhead accompanied by a BMW F650 thumper with a Ural hack. That's us.
come to the coast and get fat!

If you stop in savana ga you must stop at the "crab shack". It is on a dock and you sit outside on the dock and eat some of the freshest and best food you will have.

  • Lynnhaven fish house in va beach, va. Loved that place when stationed in that part of the country. Great view of the bay too
  • These are all in Pensacola, FL. they all are a 10/10.

Chet's seafood (only open a few days a week)

    Sams seafood

Joe pattis deli (next to the best seafood market ive ever been to. Remember I used to fish for a living. The seafood market is worth a visit by its self)

    The fish house

This next one is my all time favirote. Shorts and flip flops are totally appropriate.

The Grand Marlin on Pensacola Beach.
You can spend $10 or $30 but its the best seafood I've ever had anywhere. I've never had a single item from their menu that wasn't perfect. I suggest hitting them at sunset and eating on the patio.
Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

Thanks everyone! I will be entering all these locations on my GPS and enjoying some great seafood.

And when I get my seafood fix, I will swing over to Coopers in Lano, TX and wait for my invite to VI for some stir fry...wink, wink...nudge, nudge

If you head out on Cape Cod, hit Arnold's Lobster and Clam Bar in Eastham.  It's the best fried seafood I've ever had, and everything there is outstanding.

my two favorite fried clam places are the clam shack in kennebunkport me and woodmans in essex ma.   worth stopping at both to sample the taste of a maine mud clam verse an ipswich sand clam. i dont think either is inexpensive though, fried clam prices are thru the roof. would want to call the clam shack before going, not sure if they close down this early for the season or not. get the clams to go and if your looking for a drink federal jacks is around the corner, good place for a brew and watch the boats

Best Shack in coastal Ga B&J's in Darien. Best prices & serving sizes of fresh shrimp around. In dinner hours expect a line.

To add to Travisstrick's post The Oyster Barn Marina on Bayou Texar @  505 Bayou Blvd
In Pensacola has fantastic Fried Mullet. Mullet while not eaten in many places is real
delicacy along this part of the Gulf Coast. And it is definitely a Shorts and Flops kinda place.
I keep my Bay Boat on a lift there and can give you boat tour of the area or try a little fishing.

Shuckin' Shack in Carolina Beach - it's a dive bar but the best seafood on the island.

    Thanks everyone.
Fishlessman- I went to the crab shack as I figured after your referal and the waitress at a place 3 hours away was going on about how great it was, I couldn't wait. It was a nice ride off of 95 but when I got there, the town was having some fall festivle and I couldn't get close to park. With the rain clouds developing, I figure it was better to get going south.
Tomorrow I will try to get into Georgia and Florida for some other places. If the rain stays out of Louisiana, I will be looking for some gumbo.

Thanks everyone for locations for some great seafood. I went from Maine to Key West, FL and finished with some oysters at the Half Shell. Sorry but BlackBerry wants to rotate photo.
