2 eggs 4 sale

That's it, I give up.  Had a beautiful spatchcock chicken ready to go on the egg.  Went out to open the large and fire her up..... Slap full of mold!!!! Lit it anyway to do a clean burn, opened the small.... Same exact thing.  Im sick of this. Any reasonable offer will be entertained.

Wow....where are you located?  Hate to hear that.  Haven't had that happen to mine, at least not yet.  Do you cover them, leave them uncovered?

Cover or no cover? I have a cover on the large, thought it was helping.  I have not been able to cook as much as I was, and my new house the eggs are out in the elements. Been a very moist summer.

The mold will burn off next time you cook, rust on gassers is more of a problem.  hang around and enjoy the BGE's!

I leave the bottom and top vents (thank you eggware chimney cap) wide open and it has all but taken care of the problem.  I'm in GA where it rains every single f'in day, so I know of what I speak.

As a former boat owner I would recommend this: http://dampp-chaser.com/benefits.php
When I'm not Eggin', I'm scootin'   Eggin' and 'cueing from Temecula Ca; an hour from San Diego, an hour and five minutes from Palm Springs, and an hour and a half from Los Angeles (yeah, right. With THAT traffic?)

No way you are giving in that easily, the forum needs you and we will all figure this out together!

Fellow EggHeads, lets all do some research and come up with the best way to assist our shipmate, surely he is not the only one that has experienced this. I live in GA and have never had mold, egg stays in the elements 365 days a year.

MrCookingNurse - please provide all pertinent information, Region - weather, location of eggs etc..., any info that will assist us in helping you! Hold the line and have a delicious liquid beverage. We will figure this out!

A mixture of Dioxin, 4',4-DDT and Endrin Aldehyde (feel free to substitute Toxiphene for any of the prior) will take care of it forever.  Unfortunately it'll be declared a superfund site. ;)

I've never had a problem with mold and I'm in humid New Orleans.  How long since they've been fired up?

Maybe try one of these in each egg?

I put some larger containers in my basement and it really helped.  I have lived in this house for 8 or 9 years now and never had a problem with moldy smell in my basement, but this year it smells funkdified.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

No need for cover in my opinion. Just leave bottom vent open a smidge

If I'm not going to use mine for a while, I coat the inside with Kentucky jelly - never had a mold problem.

You will prevent mold growth if you allow for air movement through both the bottom and the top of the egg. I have multiple eggs and live in wet South Florida. I put one of the new EggWare stainless cap vents on one of the cookers and leave it partially vented. Before using this cap this cooker would always fill up with mold. Now it never presents a problem. However, the other cookers always grow mold if I leave them closed up on the top. This is true even if I leave the bottom vents wide open. You can also accomplish the safe air movement by putting a small spacer between the chimney top and the ceramic damper.
  • Mold also seems to grow first and worst on grease and food remnants.

This full moon has you talking crazy. Calm down and have a cold one or six.

Seriously though I have two eggs in different locations and the one on the covered patio gets used a lot more then the one near the house which is the one that gets mold every so often. This summer I started just leaving that egg open for a bit after a heavy rain and I haven't had mold since June. They dry out pretty quick. This also stopped the brown goo that I used to get when that egg sat unused.  We go through periods where we can't cook as much also. Once you calm down and get back to cooking you'll forget all about this little mold problem
