Want to try using Oak per Cen-Tex's suggestion on a brisket. I live in OK. What is a good source to get Oak or Post Oak chunks? Thanks for the input.

I found these oak chunks at my local Academy sporting goods store.. $4.50 a bag.. Used some last night on a brisket that came out great..

I also tried to make a post about it last night stating that I plan to use oak on brisket from now on, but it's awaiting forum approval for some reason..

I love the wood from Hawgeye's BBQ because they have relatively low shipping costs, a quality product, and you can buy by the pound so you can get as much or little as you need. Their stuff is great - produces awesome flavor.

Thanks so much! -
I got some white oak from a tree trimmer for free

OK? 90% of the firewood that is sold in OK is Oak. Visit your firewood pile - or a neighbors... careful about the 3 stick bundles at the convenience store or grocery store - those probably are not oak. The people selling a rick or a cord that is locally cut - that will likely be oak. Google some - best way to identify is the bark. Get you some pics of the bark - then as your looking through a wood pile, you can pick out oak. If you don't have a saw - buy a bow saw at Home Depot for 12 $ - and cut the pieces up.Cookin in Texas

Find a local sawmill and see if they have unusable cut offs from the outer edge of the tree.Mark Annville, PA
