Yesterday I went to my normal dealer to pick up a bag of BGE lump, and he didn't have any.  He told me BGE would no longer sell lump to him, they were going to sell only through the "Big Box" stores!
I drove a bit further and tried another place, they had lump and he said he'd just received a large shipment.  That place is called "South Fork Hardware" and they're a chain, but hardly a "big box" store.
So I'm not sure what's going on.  For those of you who buy BGE-branded lump, what's the story in your area?

My story here is that I don't pay the high price for BGE lump. I use RO.
    On the other hand
I just saw a pallet of BGE lump unloaded at my dealer on Monday, and they are a REALLY small dealer, Carry vary little BGE items but can order anything I want and have it in a day or two

My guy in Atlanta has pallets of it. Doesn't make sense that Big Boxes would sell lump -They don't sell Eggs.  Maybe they were talking about the chains and buying groups - Ace, Do It Best.....

Sometimes it is easier for an owner to blame the company rather than state "I just don't move enough to make a profit." I am not sure that this is the case but it sounds like other dealers are not having as issue getting BGE lump, I know that my local ACE Hardware had two pallets on the floor on July 1st.

I personally have not purchased BGE lump other than the bag that came with my EGG. I also do not purchase the most expensive lump I use good middle of the road lump and have been very happy.

I'm starting to think you're right, its sounding like an isolated incident.  Too bad, this guy was practically walking distance from my house, and sold it for $17/bag.

That's really cheap for BGE lump. I'd guess he wasn't making much at all on it at that price.

17 a bag?  Holy crap, I would have bought a pallet full...

While it may be made by RO BGE is far superior in quality than RO.  Kinda like how supermarkets can have the top store and then their secondary store where they sell the lower quality stuff...Kroger does that where they have their generic version and then a value version and the value versions 90% of the time are BRUTAL

17 a bag for BGE (Royal Oak)? That is allot. I think we paid $4 a bag for the large bag of Royal Oak the other day.

As for dealers I don't get it. Where I got my egg they are very nice but hey do not carry much. I asked about a small egg and they told me they needed to wait until they got at least 6 eggs on order to get one as BGE would not ship a single item. Weird. I ask about eggcessories and they say the same - months to he anything.

@Botch - maybe that's the answer, he was discounting too much. BGE products are sold only through approved dealers to get the warranty - the prices are somewhat controlled. Just a guess on my part.

My ACE Hardware sells that crap for $28 a bag. Ummmmm, no thanks.

I was in American Backyard at North Point in Alpharetta, GA. where I bought my Egg and he had it for $28 dollars a bag, I said you don't sell much do you. Ace about 3 miles away has it for $24, I won't pay that either. I guess its RO for a while.
