I am currently cleaning with aluminum foil in between cooks. But the foil has a hard time getting it all especially between the narrow grate. Is there a better way to keep it clean? I am two weeks into my egg, so still learning a lot

Good question, I have had my CI grate for a few weeks. I clean it just like any other grate, heat it up and wire brush it. Since you questioned how to clean it maybe I have need doing it wrong. Waiting for others to chime in.

A wire brush would help but I have always been told that it will scratch the grate and open for rust. I'm curious to see what others have to say. Thanks

As long as your CI grate isn't porcelain coated you can can heat it up and get the rust off with a wire brush. Then spray it with oil and season it at 350 to 400 for a couple hours.

How can you find out if it is porcelain? Coated

Thanks. Mine is uncoated

A cheap paint scrapper brush works great, I would suggest use the cast iron grate as you everyday cooking grid...as this will keep it oiled up.
