So, we had our first BBQ party with the BGE yesterday.

We cooked Tri Tip (using the water bath technique), direct and seared for 3 minutes each side at 650. Then pulled, rested, dialed down to 450, and cooked 5 more minutes each side. The three pound roast reached 125 at this point, and came off.

As did the gasket.  :)

So, we now have no lower gasket seal. We may (or may not) replace it with a Rutledge.

For the rest of the day, we cooked paella, brats, chicken skewers, hamburgers, garden burgers, corn, and chicken. It was all delicious, and we have lots of leftovers for today.

DH was bummed about the gasket, and I just grinned and said we were now part of the BGE elite. I don't think he's convinced.

Sounds great. Congrats on the successful cooks. I don't have gaskets on either of my Eggs. No worries.

Welcome to the cult-can't believe you got thru anything after the paella-that alone is about the max concentration I can handle on a good day!  But adult supervisory beverages may have an impact!!

Bummer with the gasket but from what I've read here it's not a big deal. Sounds like a fantastic cook and welcome.
  • I havent had a gasket  (top or bottom) on mine for over 2 years and have no problems with it :)

  • Wow, I'd never try that variety on a first cook for company.  At least not sober.  Glad it all worked out.  The burned up gasket is good news.  Now you can dive into one of the most-discussed topics on the forum.  The BGE doesn't just keep your tummy full, it keeps your head full too.  Happy eggin'.
