    I prefer chunks but if you have chips around, use the up.

    I like it chunky. Lasts longer, steady smoke IMO

    Only time I use chips is on the top of the charcoal at the beginning of a low and slow.  Just a little bump for the chunks that are buried throughout the charcoal.

    Chunks over chips and definately dry over wet.

    Whatever ya use just make sure you use it correctly, I.E if you put it on top of hot coals, put it on just before you put on your meat, of course if you build it into your fire, make sure it wont burn off before your charcoal has burnt all the bad V.O.C's off first!... In other words place your smoke wood carefully so as not to waste it in the first 40 mins of burn off time. In the middle from the bottom up to about just below the top layer will be perfect!
