So I have been using my future father-in-law's BGE for a few years, getting the feel for it and such. My fiance tells me this past week that she thinks we need to buy each other a BGE as our wedding gift to each other....this girl gets better and better!
We take a drive to the local BGE dealer to purchase the egg on Saturday only to be told that they are sold out. The guy says they had been swamped all day and were so busy they did not have time to write down what had been sold, therefore he is 99% sure he does not have one left. He apologizes and starts looking at the show room doing the math in his head. He seemed like he was going to come up with one, but no. This store sold 68 eggs in 3 days and I show up 30 minutes after the last one is gone. A shipment of 72 is "on its way", he said, as he took down my number promising to call me Monday after the dust settled and he figured out the inventory. Until then, I went ahead and bought the plate setter, ceramic grate and a few other things.

I got a phone call this afternoon... I am now the proud owner of my very own large Big Green Egg. The last one in stock. He even knocked off $100. Tomorrow I am gonna do my first cook on my own egg. Any suggestions?
Dusty

Congrats on your purchase....try the spatchcook chicken recipe on the naked whiz site.....we are new to the egg world and have had great success with this and it is cheap to do...also corn on the cob on the egg while the chicken is resting.....watch out -  it is addictive!!!!

Ribs are an easy, fun first run too. I still gotta try the spatchcook!

Think I can get the egg put together and do a batch of ribs on the first night?
    Spatchcock looks interesting.

I did ribs my first cook.    Start the temp slow and build it up to 250.    You learn a lot about getting temps right out of the gate.      You then also learn after a hour how well the thing holds temp since once you have it you can just watch and spritz your ribs for four hours after you have it set.

My suggestion would be to move the wedding up to next weekend. You found a good one.

Sounds like you were buying two eggs, she buys you one, and you buy her one. NOW that's a great wedding gift.  :D Congratulations on the engagement. Great gift that will be used for years. Get ready for a cooking addiction, cause it will happen. Lots of helpful people here.

  • Sounds like someone is selling to Costco! What store did you buy from? That's a ton of eggs. My guy says he sells about 50 eggs per year - between four stores!

Yeah, she is a keeper. I had her invite all of our friends over for the first cook on it tonight. The store I bought from is Garden Spas and Pool. It is in Germantown. I thought 68 was a lot as well! He said his order of 72 coming is all BGE would let him have...apparently they are on back order now?

I plan on going to Fresh Market, which is next door to the place I am picking up my egg, and getting something to cook.
