This is just me and my opinion. I realize that it only counts as one vote so no one get your panties in a wad.

I, along with a few others, like this forum due to it's on topic nature. There is very little drama and most folks keep it pretty civil.

Some stuff like cocktails, fit in with the egg experiance. Other stuff has nothing to do with cooking, eggs, or meal time.

My vote is that for the most of the time, we keep it on topic. (soap box dismounted and back to work.)

Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

The proper thing to do would be to put this thread in the 'off topic' category, don't ya think? ;)

I think people are tempted to post in the main Egghead forum because the traffic is so much higher, and you are more likely to get a response.

I posted a question about staining my table in the table forum a while back and it's received no replies.  I'm guessing had I posted it here there would have already been many.

I agree that it could get out of hand, but I don't see a very high percentage of totally non related topics, since I consider this main Egghead forum to  cover equipment and cooking techniques.

I do see where you are coming from though.

OT doesn't bother me too much. Do you mean stay on topic unless we are talking about guns or fishing? In the OT posts it says OT. Just don't look for those not interested. And no, panties not in a wad. Just an opinion in this of topic thread.

I'm with Travis, but it's hard to know where to draw the line.

If you look at the other forum, it's more than half off topic threads, many just between two people.  I'm not knocking it because that is what they want, but I sure like this forum for keeping on topic.  Lately, it seems we're creeping away from it though.

Exactly my point. I like guns and fishing and its fun for me to talk about them. Some folks like music or ball room dancing. I would rather gouge my eyes out than talk about a tuba or dance in a ball room. We do however, all like the egg and cooking.

I realize that I am just as guilty as the next guy. I am not pointing fingers, just bringing up the dialogue.

Travis I think you  need a hug.

Not that I am interested in giving it, but I will buy lunch. Then we can see how it all works out.

To piggyback on Travis, there are plenty of social networking groups around.  Facebook has fishing, hunting, firearms, etc. groups and like minded people post there.  I'm on a "Houston History" group besides the ones for family and friends.  And Travis, they even have a Ballroom Dancing Group.  Just because I post as an Off Topic, I don't think you all want to hear about Sam Houston's Monument in Hermann Park.

I want to hear about the monument. I love Texas History. ;)

I guess it could be annoying if you let it, Travis, or just do what I do and don't open the threads you aren't interested in....like that coin trick thread that just opened a minute ago.

Yes, after being on here a while it seems as though you get to know each other. Makes it hard for people not to share other facets of their lives.

Maybe it's me, but I would rather read most of the OT stuff instead of the dozens of 1st time brisket or butt threads that get started every other day.

Hey, I'm going to cook chicken breasts on the egg - what time and temp?

I've cooked chicken breasts 100's of times in my oven but for some reason how to cook them on the egg escapes me.  ACK! my fire just went out! Is the meat safe!? LAWD HAVE MERCY!!! - ha ha :D

I don't know, Travis, I guess I'm with Mighty_Quinn. I like reading about Juneteenth, people sending notes to Apple, the Texas Rangers, the Vegetarian Myth, Memorial Day, Sacred days in Texas, Reloading for Glocks, Weather forecasts in Houston, and new bumper stickers on people's Mini Coopers.

All topics, by the way, that...  ???

You went to a lot of trouble, didn't you, BWMM ?  I think you'll find I didn't start any of those threads and it was before the forums broke up.  I'm sure with your extensive research, you also learned that I haven't been back to that forum since they did.  Again, not that it's inferior or bad, it's just not to my liking.

I'm sure if you like chatting so much, you might want to give them a try.  Forgive me if I don't go back and look at your posts to see if you actually own a BGE or not.  I will tell you this, though.  I won't be reading any of your threads in the future.

  • Ha, nice one. I realized I'd originally put your name in that slot - but you didn't start theis particular thread. Then tried to change it to Travis with updates on random threads he'd started, then got bored so I changed the post altogether.

My point, though, was, and still is, "Let he who is perfect be the first to live in a glass house"

And I can guarantee you that's not true. Guarantee it. Unless you're using a mobile device 100% of the time, there's no way of knowing who started a thread.

I'd believe you if you would have said, "I won't be posting to any of your threads in the future."

I think I'll start posting about the graphic violence I've witnessed and pics of dead children. I expect everyone who doesn't like it to "just don't click on the thread". And don't anyone dare protest unless you yourself are infallible and perfect.
Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.
  • Travis (may I call you Travis?), according to the forum rules, that would get both your thread deleted and you banned permanently. But I get your point.

Well, I just waisted 15 min reading this thread, oh, and LMFAO over it all.  Thanks, Really!
  • I agree. Even though I do like to help out  when I can (I also think it's makes me better to hear about other people's issues even though I've seen most- but not all) I can only handle so many airflow issues or brisket 911 calls in a day. I don't mind the weird stuff and I don't have to read it if I'm not in the mood. I'm OK with it.

    Hey BUTWHY

Can anyone tell me how to block all of your posts-- and your thoughts

How can I get you a VIP invite to another forum

  • dan, perhaps suggest to the moderators that they grant the ability to block certain people. As for blocking my thoughts, I'm sorry but I can't help you there. That's pretty cool you can read minds, though. Some characters in my comic books can do that!

I'm with Travis. In fact I want to invite Travis to go striper fishing with me. That Is on topic since I cook all my stripers on the BGE. I'm going in the morning, report to follow. trying out a new technique.

I'm new to talking on a forum, don't have facebook, twitter msn or any of the other ones.  I find alot of the post's interesting - some ramble on but I don't loose sleep over it.  After all, this seems pretty much the same as if you were sitting in a coffee shop or in a bar.  I just let it go.
