I was wondering if any other Ace dealers are stocking any other types of kamado cookers besides the BGE, and if so what's your experience with them. We are currently only stocking the BGE and are completely satisfied with the product and service.

  • I know that my local Ace tried selling Primos for I'd guess 2 seasons.  They don't have them any more, for whatever reason.  So for the last 2-3 seasons, they have had only BGE.

The distributor here told me they did not want dealers that sold other than Egg.  Now they can sell all the gas, etc they want.

i believe there's a "pledge" or something now that dealers must sign, which BGE requires.  no competing products....

That is called 'restraint of trade' and, unless the laws have changed someone could make a stink I just don't know why they would though.

I believe Massachusetts has some regulations about restraint of trade.

  • I've heard that, but Freds Music & BBQ sells Primo and BGE. I almost bought the Primo Oval, but the lack of accessories in comparison with the XL egg is what sold me. I really liked that Primo were made 100% ok the U.S.A

not sure if it is legit or not:
    "BGE Loyalty Oath"

    "AN EXCERPT OF THE AGREEMENT
    3. Big Green Egg
has further determined that the sale of its products is enhanced by
having Distributors and Dealers that are loyal to Big Green Egg and
committed to the use of their best efforts to achieve maximum
distribution and sale of Big Green Egg products. Therefore, Big Green
Egg prohibits its Distribution and Dealers from selling competitive
    products.

    4. If a Big Green Egg Distributor or Dealer violates
any of these policies, Big Green Egg will cease to sell Big Green Egg
products to that Distributor or Dealer if the violation continues 45
days from notice to that effect. In addition if a Big Green Egg
Distributor sells a Big Green Egg product to a Dealer or other customer
who violates any of these policies, Big Green Egg will withdraw from
that Distributor all rights to purchase or sell Big Green Egg products
if the violation continues 45 days from notice to that effect."

I've seen BGE and Weber kettles at several dealers.  I guess Weber must not be a competitor even though it uses charcoal?  I guess it is like car dealers that had high and low brands.

My BGE distributor not only has BGE's but also has Jackson grills.

After reading another thread on this forum about Costco having BGE's I may consider putting in a second line of grills/smokers.
