Hey Eggoholic, are you my cousin ???? (see forum name).
I am interested in the responses because I am tired of messing with the BGE felt gaskets and looking for something different.
I found some Thermeez ceramic tapes (Cotronics Corp) that are made to withstand temps up to 1500. They look similar to the Nomax.
Anyone have any experience with Thermeez?

I might try to adjust my lid and see if that helps, worth a shot

Never heard anything bad about the Coltronics but have seen and read & heard about hundreds of Rutland replacements with excellent results.
This was my step-by-step Rutland replacement earlier this year:

I burned off two factory seals the first week I had the Egg cooking pizza @ 650 degrees. I replaced mine with a Rutland Woodstove gasket and it works great. I have done 3-4 650 degree pizza cooks since replacing the factory gasket. Removing old gasket and installing new took about an hour. The Rutland gasket needs to cure @ 500 degrees for one hour after it is installed.

This guy has three videos that do a good job of showing how to disassemble Egg, clean off old gasket and reinstall and adjust Egg.

Rutland Gasket Install (this is what I did)

I bought mine at a fireplace/wood stove store. For a large Egg you need a 7 foot gasket. I cleaned off gasket area with Acetone (Home Depot, paint aisle) and a Scotchbrite pad. Wet rag in one hand and the Scotchbrite in the other.

With that Rutland did you install it on both the top and bottom or just one of them?
Thanks

SOP is just the bottom.

I put mine only on the bottom. If I had it to do over again, I'd put it only on the top to keep spillage, ash, ect. off of it.

Funny timing for this topic. I went to my local egg dealer to spend some christmas money yesterday and asked one of the guys who worked there about rutland gaskets. He went on to explain to me that they had been contacted by rutland and told that these gaskets are not made to be used in an application that puts it near food. I have had the same nomex gasket on my egg since early last spring and done dozens of 700-800 degree pizza cooks and T-Rex steak cooks with no problem at all. The key is to properly seat the dome to the base. This can be done with a simple dollar bill test. Hope this helps.

thanks,

@hogaholic - I just installed inon the bottom and cleaned the burn seal and goo off the upper part of the egg.BakerMan - Purcellville, VA "When its smokin' its cookin', when its black its done"

Thanks BakerMan. As Choke pointed out I believe I will just do the top half to so it will stay nice and clean!

I wish I had thought of that. ;-DBakerMan - Purcellville, VA "When its smokin' its cookin', when its black its done"

Just saw a website for High-que gaskets. These are nomex gaskets that are self-adhesive. According to the website you do not need to disassemble your egg. Just curious if anyone has used these and if they are any good. http://www.high-que.com/Nomex-Gasket-Adhesive-Upgrade-X-Large/dp/B004OVAYJ8

kamado joe had a facebook thing where they gave away free gaskets to people who liked their page, and i had see a few green egg owners pick them up.
after reading this (i hope the link is ok to post)

i decided i would like to try the kamado joe gasket (i actually emailed and they were very nice to me) when mine goes, but as of yet i have not ordered anything. I pm'd a couple of people who seemed to have tried this gasket but have not gotten a response from anyone yet concerning the longevity of it.
mine is just about done for, so i will be putting something new on it soon, i just am not sure what yet.

My kamado joe gasket works awesome on my kamado joe. I also have an egg and was one if those that got the free kamado joe gasket for my egg. Works well except it is much thicker and was difficult to get the base and dome adjusted properly. Mine pulls slightly right in the back and therefore it is getting pulled into the fire area and won't last much longer. in sum, thw kj gasket is high quality and would work well if you get dome aligned properly but that may be diffucult. I'm going to replace
