I love my custom made Japanese knives. If anyone is interested I will link a site that I bought mine from. It gets great reviews. Their customer service and selection is the best on the net.

For some extra-special knives, have a look at the Kramer Knives website. One of Bob Kramer's beautiful custom knives could set you back almost as much as a new Egg. Count your fingers before and after using!

I'll give her a penny. Steaks are mine.

Reflib - I have a Shun Bob Kramer reproduction but you are far off on the price of Bob's knives. You have to win a lottery ( I registered for the lottery over a year ago and still nothing) just to get on the wait list and the wait list is currently 2 years. Then you can order your knife at the going rate at that time. Right now its $450 an inch. He does periodic auctions and the 8" chefs always go over $10,000 and I have seen some reach close to $15,000.

Zounds! They've gotten even dearer since I last looked. Guess it's more like buying a piece of art than a kitchen tool. Lovely things, but not in my ballpark. I'll have to stay with my old Henckels for now. ;-)

Yeah, If I got one I would just sell it. Theres a used 10" chef on Ebay right now with 5 days left and its over $2,000. Probably will hit 6-8k.
