Haven't been on in a while. Probably just me but this new forum is really confusing. Have most of you adapted to it and like it? Received an email a week or so ago with some folks who are using the old forum format. Didn't understand what it was all about until I got on tonight? Is this new and improved or just confusing?

I agree with that. I'm certainly not opposed to something new. I'll give it a fair chance, just take a little getting use to. But everything new does! Thanks!

I suggest using the Latest Posts link at first. Search function is weak here but the new format is growing on me now.

  • It is a little different and takes some getting used to but it really is far superior to the discarded forum.  Save drafts, internal email etc.  It really is much, much better.

Moderation could be a little better but nothing is perfect.

best thing is you don't have all these gross old dudes talking about their bowel movements, goiters, and other gross old person bodily function stuff.  That stuff does NOT belong on a food forum!  YUCK!!!

where is this place you are referring to?  old dudes usually share good info between bowel movements.

It's got lots of good folks, good info and good people. The format difference and some BGE corporate mis-steps caused a split some folks on both sides are mad and have bad blood, but the majority just pick where they want to be: here there or both. I am on both places. I see no point in holding a grudge over a forum change and no need to limit the knowledge and info I can get by limiting myself to one site or the other.

Yeah Tweev, but how many hits do you get for "hot rib injection"? :))

  • Since I'm a nube, I started on this forum, not knowing that there was any other.  I'm now accustomed to this one and find the older one to be the "confusing" one.  However, like several others, I enjoy the info on both and want to learn all I can.  I'm totally staying out of the "tweeking each others nose" threads and finding lots of helpful, positive people.
  • I am in both places at once. It is only when you try to observe me that I am in one or the other.  I won't go into Schrodinger's Cat. :))

I also post on both forums but I post on the other more often. This forum crashes both my work laptop and my home desk top from time to time and I also get this pop up frequently that some script is running and do I want to close it and if I hit yes or no either way my computer freezes for a couple minutes. Really annoying.

Sounds like a workstation issue. Try updating your browser.

My work laptop is a month old and I have a sony vaio desk top at home and they both do it. My iPhone also freezes randomly on this site. I also have the same issue as another poster on this site where sometimes when I go to post I have to scroll down about 10 pAges to hit the post button.

@4Runner and other members would you guys like the homepage to be the "Latest Posts" page?

    Yes

This is the greatest signature EVAR!
  • Actually, I take that back.  I just noticed that the current home page DOES have a link to latest posts.  I hadn't seen it before and was clicking on any one of the forums to get to a screen that had the latest posts link in the right-hand column.  So, I guess I'm noncommittal on that one....

Yes please.  Since that is typically what folks look for, seems like that would be the best starting point.  Assuming they can change it to the current default with a link.  It reads like out of the box Vanilla is a very plain forum until you customize it so that may not be an option.  I do think enhanced search is more important.  The simple key work search isn’t granular enough in most cases. Need the ability to just search title and match phrases in addition to key word entire posts.

@ Lit - Sorry to hear that. I have yet to experience a freeze on 4 different Macs, one iPhone, 2 iPads and 1 PC running Win 7 IE9. Now, on my iPad only, I do experience the post button way down the screen on occasion but not too often.  Also, I do not use my iPhone for formus very often.  Technology can be bear at
    times.

  • +1 w/ the "enhanced search" as an important upgrade.

Also, my opinion is that after someone logs in, the homepage should be
the latest posts already there for them.  After I log in, I see "forum" then I have to click "Egghead Forum" then I have to click "Latest posts" - for some folks, that may be confusing.  Since probably 90% of the threads are going to be in the general "Egghead Forum" area, then I'd play to the statistics & make that the home page.

Another reason is that, if I want to see the other areas, they're listed on the Right Hand Side - so no need to list them TWICE (once on the RHS, the other when we 1st log in).

Although, yet ANOTHER suggestion would be to allow the user to customize how he/she wants his/her homepage to look - if you wanna see ALL forums then you can have it, if you wanna see only "latest posts" then cool, if you wanna see "recipes" or "OT" or "Egg Tables" then you can set those to show up as your home page.  If that can be done, then another proposal would be to allow the user to choose whether he wants to see the latest posts chronologically or if he wants to see the most commented posts...

(not sure how much customization is "do-able" with this forum software, but if it can be done, that might allow folks to customize the page to their own likes)....

    Just my $0.02 ;)
