  • perhaps this is why we haven't heard any feedback regarding the forum, as they've been working round-the-clock to get the website revamped???  (though, I don't agree that NO feedback was the best tactic)...

Also, after seeing that XL and L side by side and looking and the cooking surface sq inch difference, I'd say BGE needs to increase the Large a bit.  Huge jump in size.  I just went with the large and never compared the two.

Total agree! a perfect example of how not to do something! I'm in noway speaking on be half  of anybody but how do you take something so successful and run it into a wall at 100mph is beyond me. Then to follow it up by ignoring and alienating the people that made the forum a huge success. WOW. LMAO! One Post, WE ARE WORKING ON IT. GOOD THINGS ARE COMING.
Do you think you will get the people back for the other forum? I guess time will tell.
Please don't respond with "who wants them back". That is an ignorant argument and predicable! Remember what and why the forum was the success it was.
A side note to the Admin. If you worked for me I'd fire your ass.

I just checked it on my iPhone and the site looked fine...even played a video.  Flash is old.  More and more sites are moving to html 5.  Anyway, I didn't click on every link but what I did click on worked just fine.

    EGGzilla,

I will try not to sound too bitter, but why would we take the time to provide our thoughts, when any of the questions, suggestions, or feedback about this forum have never been addressed in any manner?

I'm trying to remain positive but.....

Thanks whiz.  I try to monitor this forum and post occassionally.  Like others I have had technical issues and feel this forum needs some additional improvement (I'll admit flat out I like the old format better, but could live here if this one saw some improvements).  Either a short message letting us know when or if we should ever expect any improvements, or a message to go jump in a lake would be nice....

Search needs some advanced features which apparently requires some sort of plugin. Sounds to me it will just take a little work. Seeing the new site or soon to be new site, it is clear why they upgraded the look and feel of the forum as this site fits right in with the clean, new look. As much as the other forum will hate to admit it, that site just doesn't fit anymore. Would love some response though.

New site works fine on the iphone (but not this forum).  Went clicking around and found no problem.  I also found the pseudo latin "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat..."so I don't think it is not ready for prime time just yet.  Looked interesting though.

I hear you. But at the same time, they (other forum) elected to branch off on their own and are now no longer affiliated with BGE...and for what? Because they didn't like the new layout? Please. They lost control and couldnt stand it so they broke off. If I were with BGE I wouldnt have let them run off with the database. That is BGE property and they are lucky they arent starting from scratch. Yes, we need some tweaks and the response has been miserable. And yes, this is not the way to implement new software. We need to stand by BGE and have a little patience. This is the official and original site and apparently it is up to us to run with it. My .02.

BGE did not start or own the forum. It was started by Bill Miller with his own time and money. As the forum grew BGE made some contributions but for the most part it was kept going by the late Mr. Millers family and friends. With the limited information available to any of us now it appears that BGE wanted their own forum and rushed this one out along with the database that the Millers built and maintained. To boil it down the original forum was built by eggers for eggers and I think much of the anger comes from corporate trying to take that away. I'm not saying this to stir the pot or hash over which is better we all have our preferences but you really should dig into the history of how the forums and fests came to be.

Maybe so but BGE owns the domain, the name and the brand and therefore the data...so I don't think it maters who put in the work as it is all covered under BGE.  Not really talking about which is better....just think it isn't in the best interest of BGE to splinter off.  That was my only point.

Just thought I would throw in a comment about what "Austin Egghead" found:

""Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat..."

This is not code or any language at all.  It is created by a tool to simulate content so that the developers are not focused on the content, but on the aesthetics.  So, apparently that portion of the content has not been created and approved just yet.

Agreed.  I believe the words are in Latin.  The url tells us the new site is still under construction.  Once we see is at biggreenegg.com, that is when it is official.

  • When you create a new website with Wordpress or other CMS, you have default articles to see the layout of your theme... and you got all that Lord of the Ring like language...

@FlaPoolman - fair enough, that might be the history, but look at the last part of the "intro" paragraph on the homepage of this website:

"Editors Note: Brenda Miller and her family have been part of the BGE
Forum since its inception, and she is still our forum moderator. we
appreciate all she does to keep the Big Green Egg flame burning!"

So, regardless of the history, it seems from that she's a part of www.eggheadforum.com - perhaps she wanted to remain a part of the domain name that Bill Miller (or whomever) registered, I don't know.  Not sure what that means in the grand scheme of things, but when I read that, I thought it was interesting.

P.S.  For those of you wondering about the "lorem ipsum" stuff - yes, it's just "holder text" to see how your text would look, to be able to get a good "feel" for the text font, height, spacing, etc inside the "window" of whatever text box you are going to use for your site.  Once they're happy w/ the look & feel, then they will replace that w/ the real text.  I guess folks could use aasdasfma;s asdfajksdf;adfas;fka;sdf (random typing) but that doesn't look as natural, and there are actual "lorem ipsum" text generators out there that they can use to fill the text boxes up automatically.

As a side note, I've worked w/ programmers & did some software testing and another thing they do is use the terms "foo" and "bar" to represent dummy variables for some of their code.  For instance, they would put "foo" as an input, and expect "bar" to come out as an output.  Or if their software was supposed to open & read a file, they would often create a dummy file such as "foobar.txt" to just test to make sure the code could actually recognize a text file & read it.  Again, it was just meant as a temporary thing to test to make sure the logic worked before they ran the real data through it.

I guess it's just "geek" humor - ohhhhhhh, those WILD & CRAZZZZZY programmers :-B =))

    Spot on!
As a long time lurker and member of 4ish or so years this is what I remember. So really BGE is lucky they aren't starting from scatch. Just saying.

I'm not in the in-crowd, my post count will indicate that for the length time I've been around. I call it only as I see it. This forum is on life support. I understand it's only been a month however, how long will people continue to show up with 20 post a day? Admins that couldn't take the time to answer a question or two? (just look at Forum Feedback)

I would start thinking of a way to get the numbers back to this forum or BGE spent the money for nothing. Its the content and the people that make the forum a success.
If it is here or on the original forum I would hate to see the culture/content change, it is the best source for cooking or BBQ on the internet.

Again, just the way I see it.
I'm ashamed of what I did for a Klondike Bar.
  • Funny how the old timers get their panties in a wad whenever someone says even one thing critical about the reject site or when corp. makes a move (the old timers come over here and post when that happens--they never share recipes, but come here to antagonize--regulars here don't go there and do that).  Almost every day at the reject site (you know the old timers who have nothing better to do than be critical and bash anyone who disagrees with them--the clique), they have a thread bashing this site.  So much venom, bitterness, and hate.  There lives revolve around that site.  That is the reason many have for living.  They live their lives in an imaginary world of the internet.  It is truly sad.

Then they have the audacity to say it is this site doing the bashing.  They do it everyday.  Just go look.  Here, people once in a while takes a shot, but there it is all the time (usually the same rejects of life (posters).  It is obvious the admins over there are extremely bitter.  They are out for revenge.  They also are looking long term to make a lot of money off those fools over there.  They are setting it up perfectly.

I wouldn't be surprised if corporate decides to look at legal avenues concerning the other site.  You can sue for anything and those admins over there don't have the cash to fight it.

If I was corp., I would give them what they are begging for, a fight.  I would bankrupt them.  The one with the most money wins.

    Salty,

I don't see it that way at all regarding the other site. A few people have something to say but its only a few and same thing is happening here. I go back and forth and not much is said that i've seen and it wasn't bad.

I don't get the them vs us thing? if it bugs you don't go there. I say the same thing to the bitching on the original site about OT post ,don't open them.

I agree about the sad life thing. I do feel for some of the people that need to constantly fight on these websites!?
