I'm going to Las Vegas for a business conference for seven days on Friday. My husband will be joining me. I'd love to know any recommendations that you foodophiles might have for great food experiences. We are looking for quality at all price ranges, and typically steer away from buffets. We are staying at Caesar's Palace. There are just so many restaurants in Vegas that I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you can get reservations on this short of notice, I would go to Prime Steakhouse at the Bellagio. Its pretty expensive, but amazing food.

    Del Frisco's Steakhouse...fandamntastic :)

For a huge & tasty breakfast go to Hash House a Go Go at the Imperial Palace casino (next to Harrah's) casino is back off the street in an alley...restaurant is upstairs. Huge breakfast and sometimes there is a wait...best Bloody Mary's ever..try the BM with a bacon swizzle stick...OMG :P

I've heard that their buffet offerings are also delectable!
  • I think the buffet @ the Rio & also the Flamingo are pretty good.

Also, whenever we go to a new town, what we do is type the city into Yelp & search from there. We've come up w/ a system whereby the place HAS to have at LEAST 3 1/2 stars as a MINIMUM, preferably 4 or more.

It has worked for us EVERY time - from Vegas, to "Nawlins" to Santa Barbara & San Luis Obispo, to Tahoe - pretty much everywhere we've went since starting to use Yelp!!!! :P

Two restaurant are coming to mind. This information is from visits about 3-4 years ago. Yes, be careful with the buffets... We had 1 buffer for lunch, the promo sign look good, the price was right and PERIOD.

It was one of the cheaper and simpler buffer. One place we enjoyed was the "Top of the World" at the Stratosphere Casino. It a revolving restaurant at the Top of the tower, at about 105 level or so. Nice food, pricy... but the experience was very nice. A nice location for sunset and to watch the strip coming to life.

The second restaurant was the "Fleurs de Lis" at the Mandalay Bay. We had the "Chef choice" sampler menu... WOW! multiple course with invidual pairing! Very Very nice meal but $$$$. Hope this help & Enjoy!

  • Hey Kelley,

My wife and I went a few years back. we ate at Alize which is at the top of The Palms. Amazing food and view:

    http://andrelv.com/alize/

We also ate at Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay's place) which is in Caesars. Had a really good whole fish dish.

We didn't get a chance to eat at Aureole which is a Charlie Palmer place but it look really cool. Check out the wine angles:

    Have a blast. J.

If you want an inexpensive great meal, there is a noodle restaurant right in the casino at the Venetian that is outstanding. They have several stir fry dishes other than noodles. I ate there three times on my last trip! Best meal for under $20 in town!

Don't discount the buffets, They have changed significantly in the past 10 years. You have to go somewhere nice but several of the buffets have amped up there game. Some even charge upwards of $100.00 a person and they are worth it.

Boy or boy, Vegas ~ entertainment capital, one has to do some work to find a restaurant that isn't pretty good.

You best figure out what type of food you want and that will narrow down the search a little. There are a lot of buffet's and specialty buffets as well as very nice restaurants. In general the casino's want to offer a great choice to attract patrons.

It's a fun place, hope you have a great time. It's hot this time of year in that neck of the woods.

If you are looking at buffet I would recommend Ceasars buffet. I've had memorable meals at the steakhouse inside the Luxor. Among the shops in the Paris there is a french style restaurant next to a bakery that my wife and I really enjoyed. Jer

There's good food everywhere out there. But our favorite is Carnevino Italian Steakhouse in the Palazzo. It's a Mario Batali place that has an aged ribeye for 2 that they slice and serve to you. Best steak I've ever eaten. The competition out there in this economy has everyone pretty much at the top of their game.

Vegas has become one of the great restaurant cities of the world. All of the higher-end casino hotels now feature multiple world-class restaurants.

Having said that, if you have a car, let me throw you a few definitely oddball, moderate- to low-price picks:

--The aforementioned Hash House A Go-Go is a lot of fun and has huge breakfasts, but there is another branch of the outlet out on Sahara (probably a 10-mile drive) that I think is better. There's also one at the M Resort now, if you're in the mood to visit a nice, smaller off-Strip hotel.

--Lotus of Siam is in a dumpy strip mall on Sahara. When it's 'on' (and it's not always 'on'), it features some of the best Thai food I've ever tasted. Ask for the northern Thai menu. Google it for more info -- you'll be surprised at the fine reviews of this modest-looking place. You'll definitely need reservations a few days in advance if you want to go on weekends. Be sure to visit the Green Door in the same strip mall for an after-dinner drink (KIDDING!)

--There is a whole line of restaurants on Paradise, a block east of the Strip. There are many good restaurants there and they get you out of Casino Madness.

--There is no better view in Vegas IMHO than the one from the Top of the World restaurant atop the Stratosphere Tower. Make a reservation for sunset and watch the lights twinkle on in the valley and the Strip as the restaurant rotates atop the tower. Watch the bungie jumpers go flying by your window (really). Food is very old-school Vegas and not worthy of the prices, but the view and experience (and generally good service) make up for that. This is definitely a Vegas Experience, not a fine dining experience.

The Bellagio Buffet is very good for dinner. The Wynn also has a good one. You get what you pay for is true on the buffet scene in Vegas (at list for dinner).

The noodle house mentioned above is also great. had a great and relatively inexpensive meal there as well.

In-N-Out burger for fast food behind the NY NY (none on the east coast so it is different fast food for us....)

For something different, we love the Oyster Raw Bar in Harrah's. It is right in the middle of the casino, amazingly fresh seafood at reasonable prices.

Best sandwich in Vegas can be found at Greenburg's Deli in NY/NY. Seriously consider the "Vinnie's Special". It has sliced brisket, turkey and a bunch of other great stuff on it, fantastic! They've got a great chicken noodle soup as well. Never miss this place for lunch on any trip to Vegas!

Do you have a type of cuisine you are looking for? Will you have a car to go off strip? Do you just want to do the tourist places or do want to eat where the locals do? I lived there for over 10 years and just left a year ago.

    my personal favorites

    On strip

Emeril's New Orlean's House ( I've eater there and the food is incredible) or his Delmonico steak house ( I've only eaten at the one in New Orlean's but I'm sure the Vegas location is great too)

Mon Ami Gabi in the Paris

for Indian, Tamba is really good and pretty inside but it's in a weird location in the Hawaiian marketplace upstairs.

    off strip

for Mexican, Viva Mercado's on Rainbow at Spring Mountain great food, huge menu of stuff you don't see at the average Mexican restaurant.

for Middle Eastern and Mediterranean, Paymon's they have a couple different locations, closest one to the strip is on Maryland Parkway but we always ate at the one on west Sahara.

Marche Bacchus, great food and a beautiful garden over looking the lake. Off of Lake mead and Rampart in Desert Shores community.

  • We won't have a car, but don't mind paying for a cab. I'd like to eat at some of the tourist type places to get a real feel for Las Vegas, but would also love to go anywhere for some great food that the locals love. We love Italian, Asian, Mexican, Southwestern...most any cuisine. I'd say we probably won't go out for a steak because we cook them so well on the Egg. :P We love to watch Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, so would welcome anything from a dive to fine dining just to have a great "foodie" experience. Thanks so much for your help! :)

You know my favorite Italian place in Vegas is actually Maggiano's on the strip at the Fashion Show mall. They have an exterior entrance from the street front or you can take the elevator if you use their valet parking on the side.

For Japanese I love Osaka on Sahara, it's not far from the strip.

The buffets we like are the Spice Market (inside the old Alladin now Planet Hollywood) and Bellagio.

We also like Hash House A Go Go which is off strip. No visit will be without a trip to In-n-Out Burger.

There is a great raw bar in the palace station, it's off the strip but worth the trip. They have big steam pots where they make gumbo, chowders etc. Sit at the bar, the food is out of this world.

I second going to Lotus of Siam. Truly a great Thai meal and they have recently expanded their restaurant. Weekdays (lunch time) they have a wonderful Thai buffet for a very reasonable price. Visit their web site at:

    http://www.saipinchutima.com/#/HOME-01-00/

If you like Brazilian Churascaria then go to Texas de Brazil near the airport in the Townsquare shopping center. It is part of a nationwide chain, but exremely good if you like meat.

We usually try to eat on the cheap and spend money on the shows, drinking and shopping. In our dozen or so trips we've found that most any of the hotel restaurants are just fine. On the high end the more you spend, the less you get and the better it is...or something like that, but never as memoriable as those shows which are amazing, my two cents only.

Peppermill - just past the Wynn (well, maybe half a mile past the Wynne) - great breakfast with a huge amount of food relatively cheap for the strip

For Brazilian, Rum Jungle is better in my opinion. But check the dinner hours because it's a nightclub at night. It's in the Mandalay Bay.

  • Away from the Strip and if you like Italian, Nora's is the place we go.

This is where the locals go....check them out on Yelp

Just went to Las Vegas last weekend...I recommend Delmonicos steak house at the Venetian. Pricey but very good. I got the bone-in ribeye and it was fantastic!
  • I am going to Vegas in Oct. and have googled this site and plan on eating at a few of these from Travel Channel and Food Network shows.

The back of the Peppermill is the Fireside lounge. Inexpensive drinks and good finger food that is also inexpensive. Very funky 70's conversation pit type decor with a water fountain that has flames coming up out of it. Featured in the movie Casino. Its a great place to have cheaper, quite drink. They have numerous TV screens playing a variety of music videos. But the atmosphere is such that you can still actually have a conversation.
I know many like Hash House but we recently had a very bad experience at the one in Imperial Palace. Really marginal food and I witnessed the bar tender scooping the red cherries with his bare hands. That whole casino/restaurant is about 15 years past its prime. Smelly and dirty.
