I bought some pecan chunks on the way home and I put two small pieces in with my beer can chicken. They are smoking a LOT. Is the smoke going to overwhelm my chicken?

Chicken absorbs smoke very quickly and easily. I guess you will find out if you put in too much.

Only time can tell...normally for chicken I would use only one good size chunk or two smaller ones....I cook whole chickens at 375-400 for my tastes.

What temp are you cooking at...the higher temps will stop the smoking quicker...

Pecan is great on chicken and gives the bird a nice color.

The chicken came out good! The first time I tried to Egg a spatchcocked chicken I threw on a TON of wood chips and that bird was pretty much inedible. It was like licking a fireplace grate. Yuck.

But last night's chicken came out pretty good! The color was nice, too, though I had to take the skin off. It was rubbery and a bit too smoky.
