Can anyone recommend a brand of hot chocolate that is really super special? I'd like to give this as a present to a co-worker who I'd like to show my appreciation to, so I'd like it to be special, something he probably would never get for himself.
Thanks!
Doug

I believe it's the thought...and the Baileys Irish Cream that will put it over the top.
OK, try this.

TNW: I looked at the Cooks Illustrated reviews from Feb 2009, and Feb 2007. Their only 'highly recommended' is Godiva Chocolatier Dark Chocolate Hot Cocoa. ($10/14.5 oz, .91/serving)
Here is the link (though if you aren't a member, I don't think it will let you in). Worth a shot though.

(Second place was Ghiradelli Chocolate Premium Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa. $5.19/16 oz, .47/serv) -
We had brunch at Mindy's Hot Chocolate in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. The cups of chocolate were liquid candy bars. I had the espresso mix, and the buzz was pretty intense. I don't know if their packaged product is as good, but I suppose it is what is skillfully whipped up at the restaurant. The fresh made marshmallow helped.

A couple of years ago I got some of this stuff for Xmas and it was pretty amazing.

They also sell some kind of premium marshmallow and that makes a dandy combination.
Unfortunately I think the hot chocolate might be seasonal. Let me check the page... Yep, darn. You can't get it til October. But keep it in mind if this comes up again! -
There is a chocolatier not too far from where I live, that makes their own chocolate, including a hot cocoa that is to die for. Like someone else already mentioned, it's more like drinking a liquid candy bar (a daggone good one, mind you), than the stuff you might get from a coffee shop or any grocery store.
It's called de Rochonnet delights:

They also have a chocolate rub on the same page that I've been wanting to give a try.BJ (Powhatan, VA) -

Mix up the dry ingredients and give it with instructions. You can even find vanilla powder. -
I agree that this Williams Sonoma peppermint is delicious!!
-
I make my own dry mix.
1 - 8qt box Powdered milk
1 - 1lb box of Powdered Sugar
1 - 16oz container of Carnation powdered creamer (you can substitute the flavored versions - my favorite is hazelnut)
1 - 32oz box of Nestle's Quick. (or Godiva dark version to make it really intense)
Mix with 3:1 with hot water.
Add marshmallows or marshmallow creme or whipped cream or a small dollop of vanilla ice cream. -
I agree w/ the ppl recommending Williams-Sonoma. However, since I'm not a big peppermint fan, we just got the original, and it was very creamy, sweet, and rich!!!!
HTH,
