New Mini Band didn't fit

So I got the new mini band last weekend and went to put it on my egg and it didn't fit. I had to put a layer of gasket all the way around the egg and tighten the the band all the way to get it to work. Does anyone know if the diameter of the mini has changed at some point?

How old is your mini? The older ones do have a smaller diameter (I don't remember when it changed). You did the right thing to correct the issue, as adding a band of felt gasket around the perimeter is the very solution that BGE headquarters recommends.BJ (Powhatan, VA)

I have read up on them and it sounds like some are 9" and some are 10" but I could never confirm it.

Im not sure how old it is but the design has changed for sure. I just stopped by my local BGE dealer and the new fire ring is half as thick as the one in mine which will give me an extra inch or so of cooking area all the way around. Now I am just hoping it fits. $40 for the mini fire ring. I only paid $100 for the egg itself.

I believe the newer minis are about an inch in diameter larger that the older ones. Might want to check that fire ring before u buy.

They said I can return it as long as it isn't used. If it's close I might take some sand paper to it.

worth a try. good luck. Let us know how it works out for you.

The older mini had a 9" inner diameter and the newer mini has a 10" inner diameter. I have taken an old mini and a new offset drop hinge and made it fit. I took the bands cut the ends, rebent the ends on the bands, and then drilled new holes. I did this for a friend here on the forum "Hic".
Where are you located? I am in Atlanta about 3 miles from the mothership, edge of Decatur and Tucker. Shoot me an email. -
I can attest to Bill's fine handy work. Here is a link to the before and after's. When I email the mothership, the were impressed and disappointed they hadn't thought of it.
Thanks again Bill!!! and good luck Lit.

Hey Keith, glad you are loving your mini. I probably need some tips from you about cooking on a mini.
