Wobbly Daisey Wheel.....

Just wondering, am I the only Large BGE owner that has a wobbly Daisey Wheel? It fits somewhat loosely around the top collar and you can see some smoke and heat escaping from underneath the flange. I am assuming that this is by design, but just wondering.
Since everyone is in an information sharing mode today, any input on this one? Or, am I gettin' to be a pain in the a__?

After enough cooks the creosote builds up and tightens that up. Until then careful that it doesn't fall off when you open the egg.

Thanks, Doug. Good advice.

Also make sure that you align the daisy wheel properly on top of the egg. If you don't it'll fly off when you open it. You can see what I mean at Q&A 46 here: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm

Thanks, MJ......I gotcha.

Check to see if the screw for the daisy wheel pivot isn't sticking down too far, where it contacts the ceramic.

Will do, flava. Thanks

Jack,
You might just want to turn it upside down for a visual inspection to see if there's a simple bur in the casting that didn't get ground off properly. Being cast iron you can knock that offensive part down fairly easy with a simple metal file.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time. -

And, yes, I'm careful to make sure it doesn't fall off the egg when I open the dome. -
Jack - Just apply a piece of gasket around the neck using Permatex Hi-Temp or Ultra Copper. Problem solved.

Nah, there's a thought..........
Thanks. -
Hey, fieroguy!! took your tip and stopped off at my friendly Egg dealer, Bassil's Ace Hardware, this evening on the way home. He provided me with enough gasket length to circle the chimney, just as you suggested. Result? Snug fit for both the Daisey Wheel and the Rain Cap. And neither is gonna fly off on opening the top!! Thanks for the help, friend. A side benefit is that it is also going to "tighten up" the grill and eliminate the leakage around the flange!! I'm pumped!! Thanks again.

I just called customer srevice about this problem and they are sending me a piece of gasket to correct the problem described above. Only one of my two eggs has theis wobbly top air leak issue, but until corrected, much harder to keep the temp down where you want it.
