100% normal

Cool thx...thought so, butt wanted to verify...only 2 deg, butt paranoid cause I mucked up a $30 brisket last weekend.
-
I've had the same concern in the past because I've seen it happen on a lot of long smokes. Drink more beer and it goes away.
-
Rip steered ya right...FYI it's called the "plateau" the energy needed to break down certain things in the butt is using the energy that would other wise be raising the temp..don't be surprised if it sits at that temp or even lower for a couple of hours...it'll come back soon enough..

Close the dome...
-
Oh! That is what the problem is, loss of anti-freeze.
-
It is against the laws of thermodynamics for something to drop in temperature in a warmer environment. I know I heard that somewhere before.
You seem to have no idea what you're talking about.
Consider your chain fully yanked, sir. -
The Plateau was right on 160 on everything else, so kinda took me by surprise.
-
Humph...never thought of that one
-
LMAO....I been Tweeved....ya got me
-
I knew I could count on you for the scientfic answer to my question. Thx for educating everyone one the forum. We need higher educashun. :S
-
there is no absolute temp that it occurs..I've seen anywhere from 150 up to 180...just happens when it happens...and as Fidel said, there are those that will argue that it cant possibly happen at all....LOL
-
If you really want the scientific answer I can give it to ya...but it's been hashed out so many times I may get skewered by someone.
I was just yanking Wess's chain. We had a dude here a few months to a year ago that untiringly argued that seeing a drop like this was unpossible no matter how many times people showed pictures, graphs, and eyewitness accounts of seeing it happen dozens of times. He had a ton of book learnin but was an abject failure at trying to understand that sometimes things in real life don't follow all the rules laid out in books.
Short answer, a small temperature drop in a piece of meat with a high percentage of fat and connective tissue is possible, commonplace, though not necessarily always going to happen. As long as your pit temps haven't been lost then keep on truckin' and you'll be in good shape in short order. -
The more eggsperienced I become the more eggnorant I realize I am...

Exceptions to the rules verify said rule.

What is that metal tube sticking up in the center of the grid? Is that a stainless grid? If so, where did you get it? -
BGE 3 Tier Rack...purchased same place I bought the Egg
-
Thanks!
Any idea if they sell such a thing for the XL? -
Not sure, I have a large. I bought it and all the eggcessories at one time. Guy gave me 10% off all eggcessories, and threw in a BGE bag of lump. I have went out of my way to support his Ace Hardware store ever since! Check your local BGE retailer. If they do not have it, they should be able to point you in the right direction. You can always try online also, but I tend to try to support the local brick n mortar stores.

Checkout ceramicgrillstore.com. Tom just began offering the Adjustable Rig for the XL. He is a forum member here (TJV) and the products are top notch. Awesome products. Much more flexible than the BGE product.
FYI, my retirement age has been extended a few years thanks to Tom's store. -
If I had it to do over, I would buy the adjustable and not the 3 tier for sure.
