A friend of mine, after hearing me rant and rave a bout my BGE and how good the food was and how much fun and enjoyment I am getting from it wants to buy a BGE. He lives in another state and could not actually see mine (or taste the food I cooked). So, he put a Want To Buy Ad on Craigs List. He Got a response and asked my advice. I really don't know and told him the the people on this Forum are the smartest people on earth and could tell us if he is getting a good deal. I have attached the pics. It is a medium BGE. The pics are what is included and the Seller is asking $250. Opinions?

If the pieces are all free of cracks it's a good deal in my opinion.
If future problems with cracked pieces come up it will be out of pocket and not covered but I would buy it.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
A little rough. Some TLC needed but other wise looks like this guy can do the job. Old style locking hinge. Daisey needs cleaning and seasoning, new grid would be nice, needs new gaskets.
Funny, that top daisey looks like a newer replacement, not the original. No matter. Must have been left out in the rain to look that rusty.
I'm ok with $250 and with some work to clean it up, a nice egg.
Just my opinion. -
Just have to be careful with cracks. Replacing ceramic pieces on the egg can end up costing you more then a new egg. I'm currently rehabing a largre egg I bought used for $200. Just the non-ceramic pieces can add up real quick for parts. If it's just a gasket and a little elbow greese go for it!"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. doesn't look too bad, but it does look like it is a small, not a medium...
-
It appears all that medium just needs little tlc. I would put a new gasket on it and maybe even replace the daisy wheel and get a plate setter and he'll be all set.

Bubba has a page on used Eggs and what to consider.
http://bubbatim.com/Green_Book.php
You should have your friend check it out. -
Definintely, read Bubba Tim's link. I would make sure that is not an old clay egg too.
-

I would pay that as long as there are not cracks in the egg itself. The daisy wheel is fine it just needs to be seasoned. that and a gasket is all I would do to start cooking. and the wheel will season with use Tim's guide is the best for used egg buyers and I bet this falls in fine with the pricing. and it is not clay.

Great buy in my opinion. As long as there are no cracks I would buy it before someone else gets a great deal. Tim

Clay,
It has a CI grate as well but that could be a replacement. I can't tell what size is.

Its a medium--draft door on the small is much smaller. Good deal, tell ur buddy to jump on it! Make sure to check the draft hole, as thats where most base cracks start.
-
Chris,
I knew it was either med or large. Any idea what a new hinge and band set is? I had the mechanical lock on my first egg and hated it.

new band and hinge--$89.00 Would be a great deal if it was a large
-
You guys are AWESOME! I will pass the info on to him. Thanks a million!

Looking at the pics it seems to be a MED. The nest and hinge are at least 10 to 12 years old. I would offer $175 to $200. I think the SS draft door was added later.

$250.00 is a steal for that egg, assuming it's crack free.

Dr. Strangelove,
Brilliant handle! What is US retail on a medium?

Tim,
Dunno if I would grab it and run myself. I would if it was here. Think the retail is over $800. Pretty bad when our dollar is worth more than the greenback and we have to pay a load of tax as well.

I can understand the high tax statement - our state of Illinois has proposed raising the sin tax on cigarettes another $1.00 per pack so the tax of $2.99 will make it the highest in the USA! At $6.30 a pack I'm sure glad I don't smoke anymore!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Ron,
Over ten bucks a pack here and alcohol is taxed to death. We pay 14% on everything in Ontario.

BTW this is not being done in an attempt to discourage smokers - instead it our dumb *ss legislators who think this will raise more revenue so they can spend it! Same way as passing a law to nearly double the number of gambling boats in our state and again saying that will double the revenue from them! The idiots don't understand the idea that no matter how many times you cut a pie there's still just the same amount of pie! They even have another proposal already in the works to raise corporate income tax to the highest in the US!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.
-
Ron,
Didn't take it that way. What happens here is when the price goes higher the revenues decrease. People buy from reserves.

LOL - maybe we ought to meet at the border and trade some stuff! BTW it sounds like we must have some of your legislators providing counseling to ours!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

reserves? I assume you mean Indian reservations? Down here while we don't have those we have 4 states on our boundaries that are laughing and singing the cash register's Ka-Cling Ka-Cling song!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Man, there is a whole new thing brewing with the warnings on the packs. Right now they have to be greater than the manufacturers stuff. Very graphic stuff like cancerous lungs and stroked brains cut in half etc. I've heard your smoking public is up for that soon.

I agree about the hinge. The nest however, is more recent. A nest that old would have the rolled over top to it (do you know what I mean lobster defending boy)
-
@Little Steven,
US retail for a new medium runs $600.00 - $800.00, depending on where you live in the US. I haven't priced the nest in a while, but it's another $60.00 - $100.00.
I'd pay $250.00 for the Egg pictured and be a very happy man, hell the mini is that now in some places...
