Shoulder time?

At the same weight, does a shoulder cook faster/slower/same as a butt? I've only done a couple shoulders and can't remember. Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!!

You mean a picnic? A shoulder has both a butt end and a picnic end? In the photo, the top row are shoulders (whole), the bottom row has a picnic and some butts.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
A picnic, yes.

Yeah, even though they are a different shape and have a different type of bone, they take about the same time per pound as a butt. You will notice a little more waste than from a butt, due to the skin, amount of bone and pockets of fat. Just cook it tender.
It's interesting to note that the color of the meat is a little darker on a picnic, and the meat near the bone on the hock end is a little sweeter.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery
