Advice sought on HarborFreight Self Lighting Torch

I am thinking of asking for a weedburner for xmas. Was curious if this one is good or if I might be biting off more then I can chew. I am kind of clumsy and would not trust myself holding a blowtorch to light the egg, this seems like it might suit me better. I understand the risks with it but it seems better for me then a torch attached to a small mapp/propane/whatever canister.

Any insight would be awesome

ps I have a small and a large unfortunately on a wooden deck. I use blue bag/star grill royal oak.

Thats the same one I have and it works great. You don't need the turbo button unless you want to scare the dogs or mimic the space shuttle going off. Going on 2 years with the same tank of propane which was only 1/2 full to start with.

mine doesnt have the self light feature, i light with one of those bic match sticks. 8 winters left outside in newengland snow and ice storms, rusty but still going. those mapp torches ive had have caught on fire, plastic rubber guts inside, hand grenades into the lake. with the weedburner, light, adjust, no need to pull the trigger unless you want to

I have one just like that, I love it. Been using it for five years, works great. You can control the amount of flame easily .

I also have that torch. My only comment is to make sure you turn the pressure off the tank and depressurize the hose when done using.

I would do that by turning closing the valve on the tank and then holding the trigger for a minute or so?

I just leave it on and shut the gas off at the tank, Close the weedburner valve when the flame goes out. As for the trigger it's just for fun you won't need it for lighting

Squeezing that trigger is what Canadian Ottawa Egger did and caught his large long privet hedge on fire a few years back.

I have that same one as well and absolutely love it. Mine is suppose to light but the feature doesn't work, so I light it with a long lighter. It is very efficient and I am usually ready to cook with in 10 minutes. Definitely my preferred starter!!!

those features always die, save the ten dollars and just buy the lighter, you will be doing that anyways when it dies

I use the flint thingy that plumbers use, to light my weed burner, Don't have to mes with any matches. 5 or 6 dollars at the big box store.
