first boston butt

I am going to smoke my first boston butt on the BGE and am looking for advice. I have seen posts where people cook them 12 hours and some for about 20 hours. The butt weighs almost 9lbs. I am going to rub it with mustard and rub then put it fat side down on the BGE. I want to have it tomorrow night for dinner so I don't know if I should start it tonight or in the moring. Plus, what does the mustard do? Thank you everyone.
