Egg buying dilemma!

So I got the Ok from the mrs. to buy our first egg. I have enough money for the XL but the majority of cooking will be done for just the two of us. Every now and again I'll be cooking for larger groups mainly during the holidays. The larger cooking will be a deer hind quarter and a brisket at one time. Can you fit both of these on a large at the same time? The main question is, do I buy the large with eggaccessories or the Xl without?

It sounds like the large will do everything you need it to do.

2 larges with shared accessories if you are planning on Holiday cooks as main reason for going XL
-
Get the large. -RP

I would get the LBGE and worry about fitting everything on when the holidays get here again. The eggaccessories will be far more important to you then the space on the XL that you may not need for a good while.
Welcome to the forum, pull up a chair and make yourself right at home.

Your "first" egg. Heh heh.
-
that is what I was leaning towards. Thanks. It is funny though, for once the wife wanted me to buy the more expensive(XL) one and I had to try and talk her out of it.

That is why I put that in the message. I know for a fact I will buying another next year. -
Having just done all of my research, so this is all fresh in my head, you should certainly go with the large. You will need more accessories than you know. My husband is ready to kill me, because packages keep showing up at the door. AND, I just took back the Medium we got in favor of the Large so we can have more than two people over.
But I bought lots of rubs and a grill cover and some ash tools and a starter, and I still need a raised rack, wood chunks, heat proof gloves, and a plate setter, and I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff....AND don't forget about your grocery budget!  -
the large will meet your needs I think, particularly as you are already planning on adding a second. the brisket and hind quarter should fit stacked.
my cooking situation is simmilar to your, two of us most of the time, large family groups (10=15) 8 or 10 times a year. I have two larges, works out very well, I usr the second to do different temps or methods (direct indirect, etc.)
good luck and congrats,

Well all those accessories aren't really NEEDED.

LOL!!!!! I remember that time last winter. You are freezing, and staying inside, reading the forum and shopping. Tell your husband it'll slow down...somewhat :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I have a large and a small. I'm now looking for a mini. The mini will replace most of the cooks on the small.
-
it took me about 7 years to get most of that stuff  i started with some lump, a steak, and a 12 packfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
-
buy the large. it has the most eggcessories.then you can buy another when your hooked..
-
Get the Large, you wont be dissappointed, has more acc and will do 99% of what you want. good luck.
-
I see a 'small' BGE in your future.
-
I got my LBGE at Christmas. I already know I will have a second one by summer.
-
and a Thermapen, and a Tru-Tel thermometer, and a CI grate...
-
Oh yeah, I forgot to put Thermopen on the list. That was my first purchase after the egg. I chose orange.
-
I had already planned on the plate setter, CI grate, and AR. I have two probe thermometers already, is there any need for a thermopen?
-
If your prepared to belly up to an XL, then I would say get the large and a small while your at it. You may get a little deal outa the dealer with a 2 egg purchase. You will end up using the small most of the week and then fire up the large for the bigger weekend cooks.
Like Hungry man said, then a mini and your set.
It took me about 7 months to get the 3 egg set. :P
This way you can plan ahead and build a table to fit them all and don't waist any cash on nests, mates, covers and the like.
