Hey fellas. Well all of you that offered your help to me were certainly right. Be patient and learn how to cook on this thing. I spoke to Jonathan at BGE Headquarters here in Atlanta. My wife actually bought the BGE from him. He offered up some additional advice for me on Monday that put me over the top of the learning curve.

My new rule for steaks is what I call the 1" 90-90-90 rule. 90 second sear on each side at 650 degrees, shut that thing down and 90 second roast. A 1" ribeye didn't char and was a perfect medium rare. I noticed that with every additional 1/4" the roasting time needs to be increased by probably 30 seconds but the sear is always 90 seconds on each side.

I have even cooked fish filets (halibut and catfish) the last couple of nights on it at 650 degrees. 1/4-1/2" filet 3-4 minutes. Came out perfect both nights and honestly I have never tasted fish filets this good.

So, in conclusion let me thank all of you that persuaded me to stick to my guns here and thanks to Jonathan at BGE for helping me also. Can't wait to fire it up again!

What position did you have the grate in? Raised or standard? I've yet to do steaks. I'm still waiting to fix my airflow problems.

I read all the replies to your post of a few days ago and was sad that you were so disgusted with the Egg. Everyone was so sincere in trying to help you, because they knew if you just kept at it you'd have a breakthrough.

And you did!!! Wow, this made my day. And when some other problems crop up, AND THEY WILL, you'll try and get it fixed instead of throwing in the towel.

It's the new confidence that will keep you sailing through it. CONGRATULATIONS!

I'm Jonathan's boss and I can tell you he was genuinely concerned about you. He mentioned it this morning and then came and told me about your conversation.

I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your EGG® now.

Man, where else can you FIND this stuff? I mean really! What other company behaves this way? I continue to be impressed... not to mention sorry I didn't buy one sooner.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

    2 inch ribeyes? Yum!

I agree with the poster that said something about the BGE company as a whole. Jonathan took a personal interest in my plight and really helped me. He was genuinely concerned about me and believe me, that is a lost art as far as customer service goes. You just don't see that anymore.

Funny, I was rifling through my freezer last night to see what I could cook tonight! LMAO!

Again fellas, thanks and sorry that I sounded so disgusted and pissed off on my previous posts.

    GB,

Fantastic! I am SO glad to hear the end of this 'fariy tale". Everybody lives happily ever after !

Seriously, You will occasionally have problems with one cook or another - we all do - and we all make dumb mistakes now and then. This Forum is a great place to get answers, suggestions, tips and help! There is someone on here 24/7!

Your next step is to take pictures of your cooks and post them here - everyone here LOVES food porn ! Of course, you wife will think she created a monster.

Have fun and enjoy your new lifestyle !

Yea, well that's her mistake because she also bought me a PS3 and I just turned 50! She's much younger and really spoils me. She is absolutely thrilled that I have grilled already 3 times this week.

I am glad things worked out. It is a great tool to cook blackened fish too. Use a cast iron skillet or grill and the same 650 will be great.

Now that you're more relaxed and know you're a big success, let's have pictures that include this wonderful wife! And have her take YOUR picture presiding over the BGE...when the flames die down.
