Help with using the forum

Hey yall. I know, I've made thousands of posts and I should be better at this stuff. Fact is, I am still a bit ignert (ignorant with a Maryland accent).

Anyways, quick question. I jump on here to read the posts, and oftentimes I want to respond. So, here I am two pages deep and ready to respond to a post, and I see I am not logged on. So I log in, and now I am in a totally different place. Now I have to click, search and scroll a number of times to get back to where I was.

If the login process took you back to where you were before you logged in, obviously it would be very cool. It doesn't, and I thought there might be an easier way that I just happened to not pick up on.

Do you just copy the URL before you log in, and paste it again after you log it? Or what?

Thanks in advance. I am sure there is a better way because nobody seems to complain about it.

Chris I'm a computer dummy but you could bookmark it first. I'm sure others have better ways.

Bookmarks accumulate though. So you have to go back and delete them. Is that what you do?

Hey NB,

When you reply to that fist post and find out you are not logged in, just enter your username and password (you can even check use my handle) at the bottom of the post. That should log you in and you can cruise from there. Enter your username and password, not the guest password in the box.

Chris...when you log in it will open up the forum based on the preferences you have set in your profile....ie. newest post first, most active first..classic or flat..I prefer newest first but that is most likely what you are experiencing..maybe tweak your settings, or just log in right from the get go...

ignore the "guest" thing and check "use my handle", then type your password instead of the scrambled-egg word puxxle thing.

I'm always logged in when I go to eggheadforum.com. Goes right to the most recent post.

You wont at least as far as replying to a post you are reading..the posts come up like the old forum when you arent logged in..meaning a recent reply wont bring the whole thread to the top of the forum..if that makes sense....we be good over here..congrats on Bel Aire..

i logged in once about 8 months ago, and i've never logged off. . .so even though i turn my computer on and off, i stay permantly logged on. ...when i click the forum on, it always takes me to the first page of the forum. ...hope that helps. ...

Yeah, I got the part about the preferences. I also like to see the last posts first, but since I only respond one out of every 20 times I read the forum, I have gotten used to reading them backwards!

Logging on every time would solve that fo sho. You and Sally doin good I hope?

The time I enter the forum early am (2-5am) and there are just a hanful members logged in, I can't recall you as being shown online. So I'm guessing when close down your computer, it will eventually log you off.

I didn't read all the replys.

But I just cleaned all the "history" garbage from my little computer, and when I had to enter my login info again I almost shat. I figured it out and checked the box that says "remember me" or something like that. Then even if you log off, the forum will know you when you come back. You won't have to log on or anything. At least that's how it works for this puter iliterit. Hope it's that easy for ya'll.
