Unforunately summer is winding down, and I have a decision to make. I currently have a Large BGE and a Small BGE (both purchased within the past three months).
I know that Egging season is year round, and that is what presents the problem. Both of my Eggs are currently at my Lake home, and soon we will be moving back to our other home which is about an hour and a half away. I know the small is going with me, but my question is what to do with the Large. It is so big and heavy but yet fragile, it seems like a pain in the butt to move. I see three options
Option #1)
- Move only the Small and try to make due on it until next summer.
PRO - I don't have to move the Large
CON - I don't have access to the Large, and I am definitely spoiled with both right now.
Option #2)
- Suck it up and move the Large home as well
PRO - I didn't have to buy a new one
CON - Not only do I have to move in once, I will be doing this every Spring and Fall
Option #3)
- Leave the Large and the Lake home and buy a New Large for the other home.
PRO - Solves the moving problem
CON - Now I have three eggs (wait, shouldn't that be a pro). Actually it is just the cost of the third.
I really like option 3, but packaging to the wife for another egg may be a little tough.
Any thoughts are recommendations would be great!
Thanks in advance.

Option #4) move both and buy a third egg :woohoo: :woohoo: size to be determined

Hey Dave,I personally would take the large home also.If you can get someone to help you move it.I just got back from a four day trip to TN and I brought my medium egg with me :woohoo: Just take out the firebox and firering. If you have to move it by yourself, take the dome off I had a tough time moving my medium by myself with the dome on

I'd move it home. Attend the first eggfest you can next year and pick one up at a discount. You have 4-6 months to get ready for the cost.

moving the large will get harder with each passing year.. risk of breakage [you and/or the egg] increases with number of moves. and [forgive my bluntness, please.] if you can afford 2 homes and have the time to enjoy them, a second large seems reasonable to me. just my 2¢ [and i have opinions about things i know nothing about]

spend $25 for another lifetime investment and buy a PotLifter. It makes moving a piece of cake.

just buy another one and surprise the wife with it as a gift to her.....Bday, anniversary, mothers day, etc, etc, etc take your pick.
-
Buy another large and tell the wife its the one from the lake house.

You justed cleaned it up really well before bringing it home.LBGE Katy (Houston) TX

OTOH if you have already provided wifey with a summer home on a lake plus your regular home I'd think springing for a new small and a new large should be chump change in your lifestyle! :PRe-gasketing America one yard at a time.

What you guys don't realize is its not the $700 that is a big deal, it is the expectation from the wife that now thinks she gets to go spend $700 on herself. All I know is she gets a heck of a lot more use using the Egg than I get from the crap that she buys!
Every Egg I buy costs me double!!!!!!! -
Just move it.You'll want another egg soon enough Then you can move all three eggs twice a year
-
Over the years when we needed something for the house we do combo presents. One major purchase and it would cover both of our Christmas gifts to each other, or both Birthdays, etc. She gets whats she wants and I don't have to shop. 5 years ago it was the gasser we just trashed.LBGE Katy (Houston) TX

Let her spend a few months at either place without an egg and she does all the cooking. :woohoo:

Problem solved. Buy a small for you then spend the extra $ on a large for her.
-
cwm wins ! imho

You should make one of those egg carriers. Would have made it much easier for you.
It's only 95 pounds..... -
I have the Egg mover as well, but I have to say I'd go with Option 3 and buy a new large for home. How happy would you be next year when you had one set up in each location and only had to move the small and some accessories.
Good luck selling your plan! Erik -
Wife" "What the hail (she's southern) do you need with four eggs?"
Me: "Chicken, Ribs, Pork and Brisket"
Wife: "Ohh OK"
By a new large.... Get it at Eggtoberfest or one of the other fest and astound your wife the savings. -
what eggfest are you reffering to in 4-6mo?
-
Ocala Florida is in March, Waldorf, MD is in May, OKC, OK is in there too

If you can afford to buy another egg and convince the wife then do it now. Use the "end of season, it was on sale" excuse, or "my back hurts when I lift that great big egg".
If you have to wait a year or so before buying another egg then move the large egg in the interim so you won't suffer.
If you are not ever going to buy another egg then just keep the large egg in the location where you spend the most time, and only move the small egg back and forth.
The pot lifter will make moving the egg easier but a large egg is still pretty heavy and you are bound to drop, bang, slide, bump, tilt, crack, or destroy it eventually. Disassembly only takes 10 minutes and it is much easier to move the large egg in pieces; thus you are less likely to break it in transit.
