Both my eggs went nuclear...

ok, got up this am and lit both large and small egg (with new weed burner) in anticipation of making a breakfast casserole D.O. style in the large, and biscuits in the small. Once fire going, put on both daisies with small holes open, large slighlty opened, and half lower vent open. Went inside to make coffee and tend to my little girl. Sun was beating on the eggs and I lost track of time. When I got back out there, they were both at 650deg, approx. The small is new with new gasket only used 3-4 times. So I shut it down, having not opened the dome at high temp. Will my gasket be ok?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Probably. My first cook went over 650° and was just fine. Not that I'm advising that.
Let us know how it comes out. -
It should be fine.
I would actually try to open the dome after it cools down a little to keep the gasket from melting together.
My 2 cents.

Thanks Stanley and Greg. I did just open the small at 200deg and all seems fine. Burned a fair amount of lump with the morning events.

Ron, great news.

Better burned lump than burned gasket!

Yeah, my large Egg went nuclear years ago. The good thing is I don't have to ever buy charcoal again. The downside is I really earned the nickname "thirdeye".Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
is there a reason you just didn't lift the lid and check it?ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante

Stike, I thought the high heat my burn the gasket with more gasket material exposed with open dome.
-
i dunno. might be right
seems the two types of melt-downs have been glue-related and gasket-melting. so yeah, if your glue is melted, it might have come off. but i think it would come off even when cooled when the glue has failed.
i guess i was thinking that my curiosity would have gotten the better of me and i'd have opened it to check.
what did you find out now that it is cool? everything ok?ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -

Exactly, that it why I suggested letting it cool down a bit first.
