As someone who doesn't have much chicken experience, can someone please help clarify exactly what chicken quarters are? More specifically, I want to try to make "The Chicken" tomorrow night and make sure I'm using the right parts :cheer:
Thanks!
Brian

A Chicken can be cut up in a variety of ways. Quarters represent 4 pieces (of a whole chicken) usually made up of :
2 Leg/Thigh Combos (Dark Meat)
2 Breast/Wing (Back) Combos.. (White Meat)
At least that's how I refer to them... Some military folks migh call a Chicken "Coop", Chicken "Quarters" too. :woohoo: -
It is the combined leg and thigh, they are packaged as leg quarters. -RP
-
chicken quarters as sold in the supermarket are whole legs (the drumstick and thigh still atached) and the breast/wing still attached. .

Stores out here don't carry any front quarters, just the back half. -RP

Thanks guys! That's what I was thinking and glad I wasn't crazy. I was just surprised today when my wife was at the store and said she didn't see any quarters there. Guess I'll have to go myself :cheer:

Our local Acme sells leg quarters very inexpensively on big weekends like Fathers' Day. I assume that's because the breasts and wings sell well and they have to get rid of what's left.

It's cheaper to buy whole chickens and cut up your own. I hate to sound like a worn-out record, but --
Spatchcock the bird.
Separate into halves when cooking, if you'd like
Separate the uppers from lowers when removing from the Egg.
Easiest [and cheapest] chicken-cook you'll ever do!
