Need a bit of help for Tri tip with regard to total time. Sear, pull off, drop temp and then cook to medium rare - Anyone have an estimate or rule of thumb for cooking time?
Realize things are done when they're done - Thanks!

I don't do the TRex method but I think the sear at 650/700 will take a couple of minutes a side. It will take 15/20 minutes to get the egg down to 400 for the roast part. I would say about 15/20 minutes to get to 135 for med rare. Let rest and slice against the grain. Good luck, Tom.

Yep!
That's about right.
I pull mine at 125, double wrap in HD foil, and rest for two hours before serving. Get's real tender and juicy.
Tri-tip is extremely tasty -- but it isn't the tenderest cut... rest it wrapped to let the meat "melt" a bit... and be sure to cut against the grain.
