Soaked a cedar plank in metal cake pan today and when I came home from work the water was black. What happened? I didn't use plank cause water really looked nasty. Was it the pan, hard water reacting with cedar? Anyone have an explanation?

Thanks. Mike

I think that you soaked it too long.I normally start soaking the plank about the same time I start the egg.Thirty minutes to an hour max.As far as the black water goes,I wouldn't drink it
