Need advice on cutting cast iron handle

I picked up another Lodge 12 in pre-seasoned cast iron pan today at a local William Sonoma outlet for $16 (a really good deal). I want to cut off the handle so that the cast iron pan fits nicely in my large egg so I figured I would go to the source and ask all of the cast iron specialists (RRP, WessB just to name a few) what would be the best way to cut off the handle and what would be the best way to give it a smooth finish. Thanks for any input.

I just used my jig saw with a metal cutting blade, then hit it a lick or two with my belt sander to polish up the cut. Only took a few minutes.

Buy yourself a little hand-held grinding tool (pneumatic or electric) at your local hardware store. With a small assortment of disks from coarse to fine, you'll be in business. Just be sure not to force the tool (let it do the work) so you don't become a member of the "missing-digits" club! Have fun and tell us how it worked for you!

After seeing pics of your latest "handywork"...folks may not take advice, (when it comes to power tools)... from you so readily!

    LOL!!!

Just use a cut off wheel on a grinder, (hand or bench) and smooth it off with a belt sander.

A metal blade on a good sabre saw will work as well!

Good to see you, have a great weekend!!

I was just trying to offer a simple solution (other than a hack saw) to someone who might not have a workshop of dedicated tools. I'd probably use my acetylene cutting torch and then grind/polish to a smooth finish~

Wow! Acetylene cutting torch... You DO have a fully equipped shop. I'm betting you could cut your appendages twenty different ways. I'm envious.

have you tried cutting cast iron with a torch, its a little tricky and theres a good chance it will crack the pan if you dont preheat and post heat. i would use the saw or grinder.

Well, you've certainly been missed, especially at the Florida Eggfest. You Sir, are a Legend there. You best be making plans to be there next year.

Glad to hear you're on the mend. Now hang loose for the Texas Eggfest.

Fishlessman, My 12 in pan does fit but being the anal sort of egger that I am I want it in the middle of the grate. Just a thing I guess.
