Large vs Medium BGE
Options
I want to purchase a BGE however I am not sure if I should get the the large or the medium. Mostly I woud be grilling for my wife and I but on occassions from four to eight people. It would be placed on our deck so I am not certain if weight would plau an issue. I do not think it would.[p]Thanks for assitance[p]John

LARGE..price differenc isn't that great and I cook for 2-15 on the L egg...I plan to get a small for jus when I'm cookin for 2, but the large is more versatile imho..

large is a no brainer imho.
once you get into it and realize how much you can do with an egg you will be glad you bought the large. i have a large and a mini . start saving for your second egg now [trust me on this one]
good luck
hang out here and learn lots i thought i was a good cook before...... these people have real talent and are happy to share it with you.
buy a thermopen. -
Hi John,
I think the large is just perfect. You can do fairly large long cooks (did 4-8lb Pork Butts once), large turkeys, and even numerous steaks. To me it is a great size and I am in the market to buy my second Lg. Perhaps I am biased.
Deck should be able to hold a Lg or XL with no prob. Mine is on my deck too.
All things on my website are cooked on a Lg.
Here is my BGE webpage
Cheers....JerryD -
i feel bad for you john you don't even have your first egg yet and we are all talking about second eggs [ha ha] buy a large

Nice page Jerry...added it to my links...good pix!

I use a medium egg and love it. :woohoo: I also have a small egg that I use mostly for veggies.I also take it with me for tailgating and vacation.I have smoked 20 pound turkeys in the medium. It's a tight fit but it works.I cook for three people but have cooked for 15 without any problems. If you want just one egg,get the large. You can fit your side dishes in with the main course.I use two eggs because I like to use different wood chips with my veggies.

Buy the large. I own the med. and it's just me and the wife. But for bigger cooks I wish I had the Lg. Happy Eggin

John Mclaughlin,
LARGE!!!

I have a medium and I love it and have cooked for 10 to 15 with it at times but I would go with the large as it would fit most situations that you'd encounter plus ther are more aftermarket "Eggcessories" for the large. Whichever you choose you can't go wrong. Good luck and Welcome to the cul er club!

John Mclaughlin,[p]You have lots of responses to your question over in the new beta forum. They can see your posts, but you can't see theirs from in here.[p]Just scroll up and click on the arrow in the green box to get over there.[p]My personal recommendation is get the large. I have a medium (just the wife and I). Still wish I had bought the large.[p]

Large. Way more versatile and better for long cooks. Get the medium in a month or two as your second.

My thanks to all of you for your responses. Large was the overwhelming favorite. I think I will go with that.

I would get the large. I got the medium and if I could do it again I'd get the large. The medium is ok. I usually cook for 4 or 5 but it could go up to 10 or 12 easily with friends and the medium does get a little tight. I do see a large in my near future.

I am a proud Medium owner -- but get the Large.
I often cook for 20 - 40 people, and doing so with the Medium requires a lot of "dancing," of you get my meaning.
The Large is more versatile -- but you'll spend more on lump -- that's for sure!

definately go large

John Mclaughlin,[p]Grilling for two, I'd say the small.
Grilling for eight, the large.
Once you start cooking on the Egg, you are going to find that there is a lot more to cooking outdoors than grilling.
You should get the large.
