burned gaskets

went to put ribs on the eggie today and horror of horrors my gaskets were all melted on one side and pulled off the egg when i opened lid....any input?[p]
also plate setter....shoould it be in place during the preheat or can it be put in just prior to cooking..is thermal shock an issue with it?

I'd put the platesetter in for the preheat. As long as you can hold temps and don't mind smoke coming out the side, go ahead and cook!
