XL BGE...THANKS TO ALL[p]Thank you TNW, Virginian, Drbbq and the other wonderful and knowledgeable elder eggers!! My 1st time out was a 8# butt. It turned out fantastic even though I started fire wrong! I learned about the false reading from the fire starters. The Lord was with me and after 15 1/2 hours pulled at 170 and wrapped for 3 hours. The wife and in-laws were shocked. It is true that the egg makes goof ups great. Used Char-Broil hickory chunks(dry). I only used ONE POUND of BGE lump. I was lucky. Had BGR lumps bigger than daisy top; some looked like 7" of a 2x4!! Yes, I filled egg upp to 1/2 up fire ring. Apparently I was watching the huge chunks burn and not the lump. Best smoked flavor in a butt I have ever tasted; and I haved tasted a lot as a KCBS judge. Now wife is drooling for the turkey she already bought. Many thanks again. See you @ Eggtoberfest!!!

dblR,
Good job, man! Stay fearless, and take that bad boy up to 190 internal temp next time and see what you think. [p]Brett

The Virginian,
dblR's right. It takes 190°F at least before that connective tissue will begin to dissolve. Have fun on the XL. Our team (Shigs In Pit) loves our XL.[p]Stefan - SonOfDaMayor
