Any suggestions as to what may cause a "clanging" noise when opening / closing the dome? it seems to come from the spring assisted band on the egg.

Look at it while you are opening it. Really should not be hard to find.
Probably the hook on the spring moving at the connection point.
Long before memory foam, beds used to make the same noise.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
I occasionally get that from my large that still has the old style band. From what I can tell, @Photo Egg is correct. It's coming from the spring hooks/pivot point.
As long as the band bolts are tight, no worries

I suspect that the bolt that holds the spring is very loose.

Is the noise present when the egg is at ambient temp as well as when it's heated up and being used? My MM occasionally does this. Check to make sure all the hardware is torqued to gutentight specs.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL
