There are a ton of great spots- it's really become quite a foodie town.

Quick questions- what are you looking for? Nicer spots when on expense account, low key good food, etc...

I'm sorry you have to go to Vegas, but they at least have some great food, albeit high priced.   I used to have to go regularly, and can't remember restaurant names.  I remember being quite impressed with a couple of the high end places in the Bellagio, as well as some smaller restaurants off the strip.

Many of the restaurants in the big casinos are very expensive and not as good as some of the restaurants that have to stand on their own merits.

One of my favorites is "Lotus of Siam" which is a Thai restaurant.  It is located in a strip mall but the food is great.

This subject was just recently discussed and you can find the results here: http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1190924/ot-recommended-places-to-eat-in-las-vegas/p1

I'll be there in a week myself. Going to Giada at The Cromwell for the second time. It's really great. We're also going to try F. Pigalle downtown. I'm planning to hit Ellis Island casino at lunch for BBQ and beer.
The Eiffel Tower restaurant at Paris is great for a nice meal. There is so much good food to choose from in Vegas. Unfortunately most of it is going to leave a sizable dent in your wallet.
Any recommendations for the best Mexican in Vegas?

We've always enjoyed The Buffet at the Bellagio.  Breakfast is $21pp, lunch $25pp, dinner $35pp.  Lots of really good food.

@krobertsmsn, where are you staying? That can help with recommendations.

If you like expensive steak houses, Las Vegas is the place to be!

However, since you are going to be on a budget, I'd agree with the Bellagio's buffet, and add the Wynn's buffet, which was just revamped this past November (after already being spectacular).

Edited to add: often when you sign up for a player's card, you get a free buffet. That has been the promo at the Wynn for a few years now. but things change quickly, I don't know if that is current. However, the card at the Wynn is always free and includes anywhere from $15 free play to a free weekend stay with benefits (you spin a wheel).

Also at the Wynn: Zoozacracker's Deli makes their own pastrami. It's the best I've had outside of NYC.

Still on the strip: Mon Ami Gabi, across from Bellagio. The chicken is incredible, the best restaurant chicken I've ever tasted, with crispy skin and juicy meat.

Avoid: Gonzales y Gonzales in New York New York. It's a typical Tex/Mex tortilla joint. (Tortilla joint: the filling tastes the same no matter what you order, only the shell changes.) This has been the only truly disappointing meal I've ever had in Vegas.

For the "around town" recommendations I defer to others: when Mrs and I go to Vegas it's for the gaming, we stay on the strip.

If you make it to the Cosmo two good lunch spots are: China poblano- it's a Chinese Mexican place- one side of restaurant for each but they have a lot of fusion dishes too. It was unique and pretty good.  I really love the paella from Jaleo.

I love "The Peppermill" it's been basically the same since the 70s. It's on the strip kind of in between the new strip and Freemont. Food is cheap and plates are HUGE. It's diner style. But a cool experience.

Stacked in the Mirage is one of my favorites.

Joel Robucho's in MGM is incredible if you want to spend a fortune and wait forever.

If you want to go on a meat adventure then Bazaar Meats at SLS on Freemont is unbelievable for meat lovers like us.

Here are some pics from Bazaar Meats

Haven't read this thread and know absolutely nothing about Vegas. However, I did just stumble on an Eater series of articles about "essential" restaurants in a variety of cities, one of which is Vegas. Didn't read that either, but I remembered seeing your post title and thought I'd post the link. Enjoy your trip!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

This is like a NOLA food thread. There are SO many wonderful options it's really hard to nail anything down. Las Vegas is a foodie dream!

Seranno's. Best in Vegas by far. Sketchy parking lot 3 doors down from harbor freight but fresh food, and great service with generous portions.
