When smoking multiple items (brisket, pork butt, etc.) do you count the largest single piece of meat or the combined weight of all items when calculating your cook time?

I feel like, either I'm losing my mind, or I have had cooks go both ways.  The latest episode has my cook done 6 hours earlier than expected and it lines up perfectly with the largest item: 12 lb. brisket with a 6 lb. butt @ 250º took 13 hours (no crutch).

Go by the largest single piece.  Cook to temp.

As above and don't be surprised if they finish at much different times, even if the same type of meat and weight. Minds of their own for sure.
