Large charcoal grate in the small?

Options
I was thinking of trying out the charcoal grate from my large egg in the small to improve airflow. I am concerned the grate could expand and crack the fire box. Thoughts?

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

No idea but given it isn't anchored it should "move" if the stress happens.  FWIW I went with a high-que grate right out of the gate for my SBGE.  Air-flow is definitely not an issue.  YMMV-

Thanks lou...I have a hi que for the large and small but I thought I might eggsperiment to see if I can get to temp faster. I am thinking if it does expand it would creep up the firebox.

Seems to me that's the whole idea with the sloped firebox, it lets the grate ride up due to expansion and it lets the lump ride down as it burns. As long as the grate sits on the sloped part of the firebox, can't see why it would be an issue. (This free advice is from a guy who does not have a SBGE - use with caution)

I installed a hi que in my small before I slid it. Worked so much better.
