BBQ's may be a tiny piece of the issue, don't think they are the issue.
Recently, there has been a concern about exporting Montana thermal coal to China through the port of Metro Vancouver. Evidently, Washington/Oregon/California ports have refused to handle US thermal coal due to the green house gas it creates when burned. Seems logical given that the Chinese pay around $0.08 per KWh for electricity, while Americans and Canadians spend an average of $0.12 and $0.10 per KWh respectively. The real issue in China is their new found love for cars and the use of thermal coal in power plants that probably have no particulate scrubbers.

It is coming here as well, many townhouse complexes will only permit gas grills, no charcoal units at all. There are burn bans in place in Washington State that prohibit wood fires, including charcoal cooking fires.
Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!
