My Egg's new Nest

My new kitchen is finally done!  Spent a lot of time figuring out how to get the egg to open cleanly with a backsplash, but my mason got creative.  I placed a 30"
drawer below my egg for my stones, grids, etc, as well as a "trash can" to the right for my fuel.  To the left is a Viking drawer refrigerator, Viking 42" gas grill, Viking burners, cutout (with door) for a future ice machine and kitchen sink with hot/cold water.  I had to install a spot water heater below as I'm too far from my hot water tank to be of any value.

I used granite as the countertop as I wanted a smooth surface for pizza rollouts and cleanup.  Blue stone on the top and cut stone on the front and sides.

  • That's a great looking setup Dave.

Hope you enjoy "breaking it in"!
Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

We made a frame out of pressure treated wood, then used cement board as the backing.  It is nice in that we have a ton of storage space inside.  Plenty of electrical run (through conduit, so I have room for more), plus AV hookups so I can bring a TV out and watch football.  All natural gas, even my heater.

  • Thanks, I was planning on treated as well. My only concern was rain water puddling in front so I am going to run a few PVC tubes at the base to relieve this. Do you have any problems with water puddling in front of yours ?
  • Also, did you use Hardi or Dura Rock

No issue with puddling as our patio is sloped.  Not sure on brand of cement board as my contractor provided it.

Were you able to tie the sink drain into you sanitary sewer line?

No, we dug a hole, filled with rocks and covered with grass.  That rules out a garbage disposal, which I would have liked.

Hardiboard is much, much easier to work with. I wouldn't use cement board unless there was a constant threat of standing water.

  • Now that is awesome!  I mean you had me at stacked stone, granite, viking appliances (heating and cooling!), all stainless steel, power & natural gas hardwired in, but hot water on the outdoor sink...that is just awesome :P  Nicely done!

First class! With a setup like that, you're going to need to start working on the guest list.
