need thermometer advice

I think my BGE stock thermometer is pooping out. I've had the egg for about 5 years and use it 2 to 5 times a week. Yesterday I noticed that the thermometer was only reading 200 even though I had the egg burning for about 45 minutes. I tapped it and it slowly went to 300. With a full bed of lump, the CI cap off and the bottom vent open wide it won't read above 400. Does anyone have a particular favorite replacement or a fix for the current one?

Have you calibrated your dome therm? The nut behind the gauge can be turned to adjust the temp as needed. If the thermometer is still messed up, you can buy the BGE replacement for around $35.

But if you had to tap it... Probably time for a new one.

Go to tel tru's site and get a replacement. With shipping it's 30-35 bucks depending on if you get the 3.5 or 5 inch version.
